Oof, that is a blow to NZ in respect of their ongoing test series in England. I am sure they would have liked him to stay on until at least the end of the tests.

What a champion and servant to not just NZ, but cricket as a whole. A true student of the game and proponent of its values.

But then surely you announce that beforehand, and you make a big hoo-ha about it being your test farewell at Lord's. You don't do it a couple of days after.

Maybe he woke up in the morning and didn't feel like playing international cricket anymore. who knows

Frustratingly for NZ, England's tail wagged to the tune of 53 runs but they finally bowled England out on the stroke of lunch to take a 100 run lead into the second innings.
