Frankly, I feel they should have banned him from test cricket when he chewed gum at Lord's during the last Ashes series.

One Aussie commentator going on incessantly about England not declaring with 9 out, the other going on about the valuable runs for the 10th wicket. These Okies.

Disastrously slow. 16 overs short, and can't even blame light. That's the risk you take playing 5 seamers.

They could still get away with no penalty if England don't bat another 86 overs in the match...the penalty comes post-match after both innings have been completed.

I can see the argument for leaving Lyon out in favour of a dude who bowls at the ground in Shield cricket all the time (worked out well for Boland at the MCG) but it feels a little disloyal. Maybe that's old-fashioned thinking.

Ah, good point. Chances of that happening I suppose depend on how Australia goes in their first dig. If they rack up the runs then England could be forced to try bat long again.

I suppose declaring last night and putting them In for an awkward 10 over spell might have been the better option.

Hindsight and all...

But the 60 odd runs England scored for the 10th wicket equally valuable.

One gets the impression England would settle for a draw just to consolidate after that 2 day debacle.

This England side is unable to play for a draw.
