Surely if we look back at ALL the test matches played in Durbs we could see how many of those produced 90 overs on ANY of the 5 days. Yes you have grounds where you have the odd day being short, but c'mon..we are NOT going to get a full day's play over the next 3 days. Its not just about the SA cause but what about those people who paid a lot of money to watch this game and then at 15h30 the batsmen walk off the park?

Must agree with you here. It seems that cricketers can't wake up earlier. Tests in Dbn should start at 9 am but the powers that be won't have it.

And then there's daylight saving time which is an issue on it's own.

ATM, it's light at 04h30 in Durban. You can tee off at 05h00 comfortably.

Hear they said that in the rules, you can only extend the play of the day's cricket by an hour.
30 min earlier and 30 min later.

But I understand starting earlier by using the hours we lose in the afternoon.

But what does the rules say about when the game has to start. We're not saying extend it by an hour to start at 9, we're saying start the game at 9, i.e. make the official start of play 9 am in Durbs and Durbs only. The cricketers get 2 go home at 16h00 for the latest, so why not start at 9?

But i guess there's some rule out there that has something to do with broadcasting etc...so we will end up with short days in Durbs.

Yeah, start an hour earlier. In CT the sun sets at 20h00 at the moment while in Durban it is almost an hour earlier.
It wouldn't surprise me if it is the sponsors arguing that most people aren't awake yet by 9am or something. Money/revenue has to feature in the equation somehow.

Heard one commentator say, if play starts at 9am, then the players need to start warming up at 8am. It sounded like he felt sorry for them or something.

Poor normal working people that needs to be on the road just after 5am between JHB and PTA:(
 
Odd how the players don't complain about early starts when it comes to playing a round of golf at 8am :rolleyes:

Lol, gora. So then extrapolating from 8am, the players probably then have to be on the road at 7am, meaning rush hour traffic, so they have to get up at 6am then. Ag, shame. :p

AT LEAST then Smith will have a good enough excuse of being so out of shape and FAST asleep at 1st slip dropping vital catches (Tendulkar) :D

Daylight Savings Time is not in place yet is it?
 
nope we need at the very least in places like durban & cape town etc where come the mid winter/summer times, the times vary a lot.
 
FINALLY... it begins!

Weather update There is a chance of showers later on in the day. We have already lost 50 overs due to bad light. Hopefully, the elements won't do any more damage today.
