CRICKET: SA v India

"The ground was hit by a power cut. Only one floodlights is on. The umpires have a chat with each other, offer light to the batsmen and the batsmen accept. Crowd boo."

1. The light in Dbn is not so bad that a team that needs a win should go off.

2. smith will not realise this and will blame the lights and go off.

3. smith is a fckng idiot.

4. So is pommie mbangwa for defending an idiotic decision & and idiotic smith.

hmmm... this is retarded.. Only 2 days left and theyre going off.
The durban cricket ground must pay if sa doesnt win this. Hopefully the lights will be fine and they will come back on

OMAC i dont think its fair to ask smith to play with no lights. Im sure when the power comes back on he will return to the ground..too dark otherwise.

rendan I think the rule is if light is offered and the batsmen accept, then they cannot come back out again.

If we don't win this then this would have been a costly mistake. Also we're effectively 148/0 - if we bat at a decent rate tomorrow we should hopefully gain a lead of 350 about an hour before tea. But I'm sure everybody knows that decent run rates and our batsmen don't agree with each other. All the more reason for them to have stayed out for another 45 minutes today.

i know that rule Highflyer, but in this case, i think if the power comes back, the light will improve significantly and the batsmen can come back on....(i'm hoping anyway, cos otherwise it really doesn't make sense to go off)

Theres only been 188 overs bowled thus far...Which essentially means we've missed out a whole day of cricket. I think there will only be around 150 overs max in the next 2 days (if were lucky). something seriously hectic needs to happen if we are to win. And we dont have spinners which is another huge blow considering the umpires generally carry on playing when theres bad light.
So i just hope that on the 5th day india arent 8 wickets down and we go off for bad light cos we dont have any spinners.

On TV they interviewed Dravid and he said that it's actually very difficult to play in durban when the light is bad...you can barely see the ball so I guess that's why they took it. Rather be 60-0 now than 70-3 because you can hardly see the ball and the indians are moving the ball by a lot...

LOL well done rendan, they've come back out again. Maybe they weren't offered natural light but had to go off because of the floodlights.

yip as i said.. this isnt a normal situation so when the lights came back on, i had a feeling they would return... Good decision by smith (even tho i despise him). No use playing with no lights and lose 3 wickets.

Why do the umpires only offically call it the end of play only a hour later then after they left the field? Like yesterday.

umpires are just wasting time everytime they get together and chat about the light...just play and check every over ffs...

omg...light offered to fielding side. Dont see this happening everyday.

doubt there will be cricket today...we just need to bat positively 2moro...

commentator said if SA declare at tea 2moro, light would prob be offered to indian batsmen. so we prob have 2 sessions to bowl them out...hmm...

I'm in Dbn. The light is not bad. The umps set level - I know. But when you desperately need to win a test you stay until you really can't see and the umps offer you a torch. :D

IMO monkey boy was thinking only of himself again.

I'm not only saying it because I have doubt in smiths ability and personality and captaincy skills and.....(you get the idea), but we desperately need to win this test.

And BTW- the light is still not so bad and they're walking. Now you may say that this time it's the upms fault. Wrong. It's smiths. He set another precedent when he accepted the first time. Prat he is, I tell ya. I bet after he accepted the first time, some one in the dressing room told him he was stooopid hence he was prepared to stay when asked the second time.

No flippin way!

I don't believe it. For once I'm with Smith. To rub salt in the wounds what's the odds that Smith will be fined for showing disconsent?

Surely surely its the batsmen's choice??

Since Mark Bensen went off that "junior" umpire started calling the shots.

Another bit of bad news...rain forecast for tomorrow and Sat

guys wtf happened? my cricinfo isnt updating :(

They offered light to fielders? wtf howcome.... and did smith tune the umpires?

details pls :D

"Law 3.9c Either captain may appeal against conditions to the umpires before the next call of time. The umpires shall uphold the appeal only if, in their opinion, the factors taken into account when making the previous decision are the same or the conditions have further deteriorated."

What a stupid rule. Its not like the fielding side cant field or anything... if the batsmen can bat, the fielders can see

Smith went off cos there were no floodlights...no points throwing wickets away. No one to blame except the weather. IMO Durban isn't such a great test venue anymore. Light situation is happening when Aus and England were here.

Omac as much as u hate Smith, I dont think there's another captain that can lead SA atm. Smith has had bad form recently and is arrogant but he's a decent captain. We have bowlers who don't bowl in the in the right places and you can't blame Smith for that. We have batsmen who can't score runs if schoolboys bowled to them. Kallis or Boucher isn't good enough. Only other captain I can think of is Mckenzie but he's not even in the team. I'm not saying Smith is a great captain but honestly he's all SA can afford to lead the team.
