CRICKET: SA v India

Ye, I will believe that, weather looked strange this morning too.
They still say max will be 26, will just have to see what the weather is going to be.
Very humid lately so guess some thunder showers cannot be far off.

Well, then its probably going to be a series draw.

Pity. Anyone know how that will effect SA rankings?

Morning all...Let's all hope our bowlers can be effective today. Limit them to a max of 200 then chase around 240. Looking at the pitch 240 will be difficult but let's not give up hope on the SA team.

clouds in sky will help the bowlers, SA need to go full out attack when they bowl today...
I'd say the game is 55-45 in favour of India, thats if they want to win it...

The pitch started to turn very quickly, which is a little *** considering how flat it was day 1 and 2. SA shouldv'e picked up the pace a bit yesterday when Prince and Kallis were in. Boucher and Polly were scoring twice as fast as the prior two.

Still no P.M.s for those beers. Don't you guys want your beer

Lol...thought it was just a joke..it's ok...we'll organise something later down the line...I prefer having my beers at the test match. ;)

We did have a bit of the ****e luck. Losing the toss was huge and the pitch is deteriorating rapidly. From last night it looks like the pitch will be aiding the fast bowlers as well with invariable bounce.

Prince and Kallis really screwed it up. Prince in particular. Way too slow.

Hopefully we can bowl them all out for under 220 today. That would give us a chance on Day 5 to catch up and try to win. We'll have to imagine that it's a one day we're playing.

cant imagine its a one day cos the pitch is much worse than it is in one-Dayers and the bowlers can bowl around the wicket into the rough and wides are not a issue in test cricket. If India get 260, i think we can still chase down 300. But if the target gets close to 350, we should play for a draw.

I agree prince did stuff it up. Kallis played okay. He was solid at the start and then started opening his shoulders.Prince pissed me off cos he didn't even rotate the strike. Just blocked and blocked. 26 of 107..Just not good enough.

If Prince had say 45 in 107 the game would've changed complexion and would've been a 50-50 game. But anyways...Prince is a good batsmen (like Rudolph is) when the team needs to consolidate but when the team needs some runs he cannot accelerate at a good rate and sensible batting. Pity Gibbs did kuk as well...10-20 more would've been fine...sigh...now it all depends on our bowlers and hope they don't waste deliveries.

Not really possible. Remember there are restrictions in ODIs that don't exist in Test matches (fielding restrictions, rules for wides and no balls, etc)

300 would be tough if we only go in late today or early tomorrow, considering the deteriorating pitch.

I think India desperately want the win - their first ever series win in SA would be a huge achievement. SA wouldn't mind the draw, so I think they're gonna give the Indians the chance to screw it up, rather than play risky cricket.

Think SA should start attacking today and see how the pitch plays. If the pitch is really not offering much then the only hope SA has is to play negative cricket.

Yeah cannot compare ODI's to tests especially on a 4-5 day old pitch where it can be very unpredictable.

Jonty India will not really play risky cricket and go for a win. If they can, they will make this game as safe as possible. For them a drawn series in south africa is like a victory in itself. They really were underdogs and have turned it around.

Who do you guys think would get the man of the series award? early predictions?
I rate it will either be Sreesanth (he has 18 wickets this series) or Ashwell prince.

I would give it to sreesanth cos hes a new player that has shown so much maturity. Wow did u see his reverse swing bowling yesterday with the old ball? he can reverse it both ways and was troubling pollock. And EVEN MORE amazing is his leg spinner slower ball.. thats insane with the accuracy and the control he has with that ball. And his seam position has always been the best of either team the whole series.. Hes one india should nurture and he'll be a real asset.
He should just stop with all his crap and concentrate on bowling.....but i suppose its who he is and whats made him successful. gets under the batsmen's skin and it works for him.

any other possible candidates for man of the series? maybe pollock. Hes done really well too. Forgot about him.

i think he meant one day comparison as in SA will have a limited number of overs to get the required score....

I agree with you. Sree is definitely the "find" of the tour for India. I think he will become one of their "greats" and also agree he needs to cut out the cr@p. He is already making the ball do the talking! It would be interesting seeing him bowl at the Aussies in Oz. That will be something to watch particularly if he starts his cr@p, they'll give it back to him in multiples!! That could possibly make him cut it out and come at them with his bowling talent. He is also so young still.

Apart from him and Prince, no one stands out though.. perhaps Kumble for being a match winner..but I don't know

nah kumble has really dissapointed me in this series. The way every1 was talking i thought kumble would run thru sa on this pitch. He really didnt trouble kallis, bouch or prince. Unless he wins the game for india with 7 or 8 wickets in the last innings, he has no chance.
Tendulkar on the other hand, is a genius. He can do anything. He was the most threatening indian bowler yesterady. Beat bouch on numerous occasions. Had kallis nicked thru slip. Only problem is he is a little lose and gives the odd shocking ball every over. Imagine how good of a spinner tendulkar would be if he just bowled his whole life and never batted.. scary!
Kinda like multitalented AB deviliers.

So apart from sree, prince and pollock. I think no1 really stands out.
Polly has 12 wickets and a handful of very helpful batting performances.... so i guess it will depend who wins the match...

And with regard to ausies in aus. I think he'll keep his mouth shut.... Just like nel did when he went over there.
Nel also kept his mouth shut when sa toured india.... However sreesanth is still young and a little stupid. I think he may actually start his crap against oz later in 2007 when they tour. He'll be taught a lesson over there...Ponting and co. dont take crap. Remember when smith gave him crap? lol.... ponting put him in his place

I think Harris is gonna have a good day. Maybe Smith should bowl a few as well.

wtf is going on, y is gang here and not tendulkar. is tendulkar perhaps sick or injured?

We have confirmation of what happened. Apparently, Sachin Tendulkar was off the field yesterday for too long, and he cannot bat at No.4. He was just informed, it seems. He looks chuffed up there on the balcony. Anyway, now we have Ganguly. All is well, for the moment.
