CRICKET: SA v India

sigh...openers just arent very good. Smith should be dropped or bat lower down the list. he plays well against balls that don't swing, flattened track, slow bowling, useless team.

i dont mean to be mean or anything, but i seriously dont like bosman. It seems as if he lacks the technical quality required at the highest level..And these aren't particularly dangerous fast bowlers.. If he has to face australia or pakistan i think he will really struggle. Ive seen him hit a good few beautiful blows in provincial cricket and i really enjoyed it, but this is a way higher standard. And me thinks his technique is not quite up to scratch.....Either he must come in and start hitting or not play. When he tries to play conservatively, he doesnt look too good..... I suggest ab or gibbs at opening and bring back Rudolph in the middle!

Bosman doesn't seem to be coping that well. He plays provincial very well (escpecially PRO 20) but it looks like he's battling to take the next step....

Maybe a bit more time for him...Players like Kallis played like crap at the beginning. Drop Smith, make Boucher captain and play gibbs and loots as openers. Kallis third and so on.

no dude, you cant even compare the two batsmen... Kallis is technically adept batsmen with a proper defense. Even when he was failing miserably at the start of his career, no1 doubted his ability...His technique is awesome and always has been...Infact i think he has a better defensive technique than someone like ponting or lara and even tendulkar, even though hes not as aggressive or effective. He is the best test batsmen SA has had since 1990. Cant even compare him with the rest (cullinan, kirsten, gibbs) and his technique hasn't really changed all that much from when he started... Someone like AMLA i think should maybe given more of a chance in the middle, he needs to find his feet and has a lot of talent, but Bosman, somehow i really doubt he'll be able to perform against the likes of mcgrath, bond or even vaas on a decent pitch.. Maybe on an absolute flat track like the one at the wanderers when sa made the record. On a pitch with a bit of movement and quality bowlers, dunno how he'll do...

yip 75/2 aint doing bad at all...
sigh never mind, kallis jst got out :( .. guess i said too many good things about him

KEMP CHEATS.HE SHOULDA BEEN OUT.
He nicked the ball and stood like a cheater....

Steve Waugh and Adam Gilcrest, Australian cricketers, have differing views on “walking” when they snick a ball and are caught behind. Waugh reckons that there is a paid official whose job it is to stick his finger in the air, while Gilcrest takes it upon himself to walk. Cricket purists would call Waugh a cheat, but in this day and age where there is a lot of money and one’s career on the line to perform, he has in my mind “extenuating circumstances” in his favour.

Thats how I feel about it.

On current evidence I must agree. I think they're trying to find a Gilcrest to open in the one dayers for SA.

hehe omac, well i kinda disagree with you on that point. If all batsmen walked when they nicked the ball, there wouldnt be any mistakes made by the umpire...
And umpires will have more trust in you next time you bat. If the fielding side appeals and you stand, no umpire will give you out since he knows youre a walker......

I feel it would be better for the game if a batsmen got fined/banned after the game if there is video evidence that he nicked the ball and stood... similar to what FIFA should do if they find video evidence of a player diving...
Well i guess people have differing opinions...

Gilchrist ftw! Only aussie (apart from michael clarke) that doesnt piss me off!

hmm top order failed again .. 93 for 4

;) So you're a purist then... Why are you watching 50 over stuff? Purists want the players to play only 5 days stuff in clean white kit! :p

Yeah! Opinions differ. I like to leave it up to the player. It's his livelyhood & reputation. Both ways can backfire. Let's face it. When a batter is dropped because he has failed eight times in a row, the selectors don't go back to all eight innings and count how many roughies he got! Likewise when he's made three 100's and five 50's in his last eight innings, the selectors don't go back and say "well he 'cheated' in 4 of those innings, let's drop him because he wouldn't have made all those runs!"

edit: and then of course there's the Daryl Hairs of the world.

I think they might just not get away with it tonight. They got a seam attack and the pitch looks like its good for batting. Me thinks they need to bring back either dippenaar or ashwell prince and put him either after or before gibbs pending the situation. I'd go for ashwell.. as dippenaar might just slow things too much.. then again vs a dangerous bowling attack him staying in while the others attack the bowling can be good.

Then push AB to the opening and drop loots till he is better. Problem is Smith tho, ordinarilly i think they'd have dropped him already but being cpt they kinda forced to keep him? and they can't drop him down the order since if we need to bring in another opener then the team structure don't work so lekker.

I think also gibbs struggles with the new ball.. not really for from just vs a new ball + fresh bowler. If you look at when he is dismissed for nothing its when SA openers fail and he is left exposed sort of. I wonder why tho, maybe he just don't like the new ball -shrug-

I must just point out that India are useless. Everytime they come here (or actaully, play anywhere except home) they get hammered. You can give them any coach, and you'll get the same result.

They might as well pack there bags and go home.

They dont offer any resistance. I dislike watching cricket when i have absoloutly no faith in a side - and India fall into that category.

Ahh, it pisses me off actaully.

Greg Chappell should stop wasting his time with a bunch of no-hopers.

Agreed - The real disappointment here is that after the series, our team will once again think we're the best because we beat a third rate team convincingly. I think Zim might be a challenge for this Indian side!

Well to be honest they are looking good with everything other than batting last night. I still think if they had a good batting side we'd have lost the game since they strangled SA's progress in the last 15 or so which SA team should be worried about since our bowlers might be murdered on the West India pitches.

I liked the 1st session for that. In the 2nd they just showed yet again that they are hopeless on pitches in SA.

When you look at the Indian batting line up they should really be able to offer a lot more than they have on the batting side.

when you look at the Indian batting line up, you really think o my god, where are the batsmen......What really doesnt make any sense is that they play 5 bowlers when they obviously have a problem with their batting...

Guys i think your being a little harsh on their batting. lol. With Yuvraj Singh and Rahul dravid they have a decent line up... Recently they were taunted as having the best line up in the world. If they bring back laxman and ganguly with dravid and yuvraj singh, they have a world beating batting lineup.
Pathan played well last night too. He played better than any of the top order batsmen. But right now with the current batting, i think zim may even give them a run for their money.... Its a pity that sa couldnt get tested against the best india had to offer..:( i worry the same thing will happen with pak, shoib and asif wont play and well make huge totals and think were good .. -sigh- .. and then ofcoarse come the world cup, we get hammered.

we would be looking great if the world cup was going to be held on SA pitches (and assuming it did not rain during any of our matches...)

but i think you guys are being harsh - we can only play against what india are currently providing and i think we are doing that pretty well...kallis playing more positively is a huge plus, pollock seems to be re-energised, ntini has really become a class player and there is a good focus and energy to the team (not to mention the fact that we seem to have stopped dropping a high percentage of catches - bosman has been great)
