as much as i appreciate the sports i watch, i would prefer the team i am supporting to be in a dominant position first before appreciating the merits of how the individual teams have played. if i have no emotional investment in the teams playing then i don't mind at all if they make it a close contest.

case in point the 434 game. i can appreciate that game in hindsight safe with the knowledge that we won. had we lost, even by a close margin, i doubt that i would want to ponde much on it. it is for that reason that stations like liverpool tv, man united tv etc don't show good games which the team lost.

Interesting that you bring up 434 as I know of many people who did not see that win live as after the Aussie innings they swore about how cr_p we are and that we had given up and were not up to the Aussie standard.... what a game they missed because of that defeatist attitude. And aren't we lucky the players did not have the same attitude...

Whatever happens in this last match we have smashed England in this series. If anything a win here will be bad for England. They will forget how bad they were for the rest of this series and think they are doing fine!

i actually missed the middle part of the 434 game as i figured the grand prix on that day would give me more pleasure (guess it didn't given i can't remember any details about it). in cricket i always say wait to see what the other team does before you declare that your team's performance has been useless.

Cricket it played on variable pitches, so your stats really do not mean too much. If you played on concrete those stats would be even worse. You only have to be better than the opposition on the pitch you have been presented with. We have.

not my stats. cricinfo's. i'm sure we all know that cricket is played on very differing conditions. still doesn't change the fact that when you look at the stats our bowling doesn't look great.

aside from the stats, our bowling has not been the best throughout the series. we've failed on a number of occassions to bowl good length on pitches where short length offers nothing.

You're right, bowling was not the best it can be, but the good thing is the coach, Smith and Kallis said the same thing. They also said that they will have to improve the bowling when they play Aus.

Our bowling hasn't been too flash but our batting has and that's what's won us the series...

I remember thinking okay I'll watch the 1st 15 overs of SA's innings and when they would be around 60/2 or3 I would probably go do something less painful. What a game it turned out to be.... My word....

Again, you only have to be better than your opposition. And I am happy to see us rely on our batting to win test matches and not just our bowling like in the past.

It would also help if you formatted those stats properly. They are difficult to read as they are. Kallis 6 overs?!??! :)

And as to your statement "Again...". That still doesn't take away from a poor bowling performance. Or are you saying that you thought that the bowling performance was top notch?
