Cricket: Test Cricket

Maybe so but in his next innings or series when he makes a double century and is the reason we win he will be a hero :).

JP Duminy stands tall in epic innings

JP Duminy stands tall in epic innings!

Australia had begun the day in an overpowering position with South Africa on 198 for seven in reply to the hosts' first innings of 394.

But young JP Duminy stood tall at one of the most intimidating venues in world cricket, easing his way to an epic 166 and making it look almost ridiculously easy in the process.

Tailenders Paul Harris and Dale Steyn also occupied the crease effectively and shared stands of 67 and 180 with Duminy. South Africa reached 459 all out -- with a scarcely believable lead of 65.
After seeing the score yesterday, this is a darn good effort.
Awesome really.

Wow. Simply magnificent. I have recognized a pattern here - SA perform poorly; I curse them; SA turn the matches around. So for the sake of all of us, I will keep dissing SA so that we continue to win matches :D

I say we are going to bowl the aussies out for under 250 and win the second test :). Although Hayden is due for an epic innings :).

Australia 394 & 85/3 (29.2 ov)
South Africa 459

Australia lead by 20 runs with 7 wickets remaining

Pointing hanging in there on 31

Basically Pointing and Clarke trying to keep the series alive at the moment.. if SA squad can get them gone cheaply they'll be on the way to a series win.(provided they handle the tail well for a change)

1 run added before lunch break..

12.30pm This is shaping up into a cracker of a match. At lunch on day four, Australia are effectively 3 for 21. A ripping session, with South Africa nipping out three wickets. A moment of contention when Aleem Dar gave Hussey out when replays didn't show any bat on ball, and Cricinfo's servers nearly came down what with the flood of angry emails.

Technology is available, but even that hasn't proved successful. You just need to go back to the recent New Zealand versus West Indies series to see that. So how do you call it? Umpires are making mistakes and so is technology. Players need to stop complaining and take the punches. There have been so many instances when a bad call has changed a game. It always is a shame when a batsman is given out incorrectly. It happened to JP Duminy, who was incorrectly given out on debut in the first innings in Perth, when ball came off the forearm, but he then came back to score a superb innings in the second dig.

There was a moment before anyone realized what had happened. McKenzie took the ball and then slowly got up, and then Steyn and Smith ran forward. Clarke cannot believe he slapped a short ball straight to the catching fielder. The ball was there to be hit, but after edging so many deliveries Clarke picked out the fielder. Steyn has a third, racing towards the Man-of-the-Match award, and a 96-run stand is snapped. In comes Andrew Symonds.

43.1 Steyn to Clarke, OUT, a sharp catch to a short ball! This pretty much sums up Clarke's innings, as he gets back and reaches out to slap a short and wide ball off the lower half of the bat to short cover, where McKenzie dives to his left and cups the catch

Pointing is dangerous tho.. maybe going for another century

Australia lead by 80 runs with 5 wickets remaining

What a match Steyn is having. Five wickets in the first dig, a maiden Test fifty, now he comes back into the attack and snaps up a couple wickets in a maiden over. He can do no wrong at the MCG. Australia are falling apart at the seams while Ponting bats excellently at one end. Steyn has nine wickets in the match. Australia lead by only 80 runs. I love Test cricket.

43.6 Steyn to Symonds, OUT, now thats well taken by Kallis at second slip! A superb delivery to Symonds again, pitched up on nearly a perfect length and a leaden-footed Symonds goes for a duck, pushing hard and sending the ball low to Kallis, who cups it low in front of him

A Symonds c Kallis b Steyn 0 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

W00t steyn on a hatrick

Australia lead by 100 runs with 4 wickets remaining

53.1 Ntini to Haddin, OUT, edged and taken! Ntini gets into the action with a full ball just outside off stump and sucks Haddin forward, the ball bounces a shade and Haddin's wide shot goes nowhere but into the safe hands of Kallis at second slip
BJ Haddin c Kallis b Ntini 10 (35b 0x4 1x6) SR: 28.57

Pointing is running out of people to play with..

B Lee b Kallis 8 (21b 1x4 0x6) SR: 38.09
A bat-pad and short midwicket move into place when Lee takes guard.

71.3 Morkel to Ponting, OUT, oh would you believe it? He's gone for 99! Morkel hits a tempting length, up goes Ponting's back foot as he pushes at the ball, and Smith at short cover snaps it up
RT Ponting c Smith b Morkel 99 (169b 7x4 0x6) SR: 58.57
Only one slip. Plenty of cheer as Morkel runs in .... Smith puts himself in at short cover

Australia lead by 147 runs with 2 wickets remaining

hah Pointing is DENIED the century! Looks like this game will be wrapped up tomorrow

78.6 Kallis to Hauritz, OUT, bowls em with the off cutter! Hauritz stands rooted and pushes at one that pitches back of a length and breaches his defences, making 9 for 231
NM Hauritz b Kallis 3 (31m 23b 0x4 0x6) SR: 13.04

Uhm.. Johnson has like 34 runs :s
1 more over to new ball tho :p
