Cricket: Test Cricket

I am really holding my thumbs for the boys, but serisouly, you didn't just compare a ODI total to a Test total did you?

Hell, I'd even compare it to a 20twenty score if we ever manage to get 300+runs in that format:D.

Seriously though, I did realise those scores were from different formats before I posted. The run rate required for tomorrow is just under 3.5 runs per over, so with a few good partnerships we'll get it.

For sure Smith is a big part of the team, because of his fearless style of batting and high strike rate. Like all other teams, we can't place the burden of winning and losing on one man's shoulders. Now is the time for others to step up to the plate and shine. Go big or go home:D.

Who cares if we lose, we have won the series, surely going for the no1 spot means more than a drawn test match :(

Come on boys no draw tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!! win or lose does not matter either way but winning would of course put the icing on the cake :p

Well we will know by lunch tomorrow if SA are going to get it because amla, mckensie and kallis have to do something for duminy, devilliers and boucher to win it. If the top 3 batsmen go cheaply to expect the bottom end out pull a win is silly esp when 1/2 the day will be gone. Incidentally what will be critical is how kallis approaches the wicket, if he comes out with a negative mindset we gonna lose. When SA have pulled off miracles they have been positive, everytime they comeout looking bad they;ve lost.. hopelessly i might add.

Kallis could win or lose it for us as you say, i'm preying for a positive run every second ball kallis and not the one run every 5 overs kallis.

Number 1 would be uber cool!! But, not as cool as whitewashing the Aussies @ home! That would just be the most awesome feat ever achieved.

Well, unless he goes out. Many folks (myself included) believe that if he didn't go out in the 438 game we wouldn't have made it. Great, he's a rock for the most part, but sometimes we need a bit more.

Same could be said of Dippenaar... good thing he got out... brought in Gibbs :D

Yeah... talk about a player that just couldn't cut it at the top level. All the talent in the world but just didn't have that hunger.

Mickey Arthur doesn't agree with you:

All we need is one 4 per over:).

Rubbish arthur you bloody chop, beating the aussies 2-1 in their backyard is a feat on it's own and losing and won't make it lose its gloss. 3.5 runs per over to achievable and i prey we go for it.

ok are we doing predictions :D

SA to win by 5 wickets, JP and Bouch there at the end. Amla scores that well deserved century, McKenzie scores another 20 odd and goes short of his 50, Kallis does his ave proud and goes beyond 50 again. AB is the one trying to push the pace and gets out for a fast 30 odd.
That means that JP and Bouch both gets past their 50's... :D

If only....

i know it's time is past but one of the problems with a sub is that it would almost always favour the side batting last.

the obvious rule would be that once someone is subbed, they cannot perform a specialist task again. and then the sub has to be made at the beginning of the innings. but even this leaves the 4th inning team with the a huge advantage.

i just can't think of how a sub rule can work fairly for both teams.

==================

as to the game. 2-0 is a lot better than 2-1 given how it affects us being No 1 come the SA leg. I would think that given the tracks, given our series-won effect, it's unlikely we hang on to a 2-0 series win.

GO PROTEAS!!!!!!!!!!!

McKenzie and Kallis gone this morning.

Mac caught by Hussey off Corky Bollinger 27
Kallis caught and bowled Ronald Macdonald 4 - had to be referred to third umpire.

Ball bounced if you ask me. You can see the dust coming off the pitch - fingers don't make a cloud of dust like that. Ah well - decision's been made. In a bit of a predicament now - these two had better put on a decent partnership...

I dunno, I also though it hit the ground. But I think that everyone - MickieD, Kallis and the umpires - did the right thing by referring it up.

Hauritz to Amla, OUT, Hauritz gets into the action! Amla goes back to play one turning back in but it bounces more than anticipated and he pops it straight off the hips to Katich at short leg
HM Amla c Katich b Hauritz 59 (172m 112b 9x4 0x6) SR: 52.67

Well, that's it, I think. Time to play for the draw.

Big blow that. And Duminy is looking tentative playing Hauritz. Going back to fullish deliveries gets me worried. Lets hope he doesn't crack under the pressure. Draw looks like it could be the best outcome for us right now. I suppose you could say it's 2 youngsters at the crease right now in De Villiers and Duminy. They've proved to be our saving grace so far - I reckon they can do it again...

EDIT: this pitch could become a factor - playing low and slow with major cracks and the odd one that gets steep on the batsman. Something in it for the spinners AND the seamers. You could say this match was won on the toss if we lose...

de Villiers, Duminy and boucher.. I wonder if they can pull off 231? runs @ a rate of about 3.5 r/o. Gonna go sleep soon so i will wake up and check later :p

Okay, well de Villiers, Duminy and Boucher are all gone. So the question now is how long can Harris, Steyn and Ntini hold out?
