Cricket: Test Cricket

South Africa 102/1 (33.1 ov)
South Africa trail by 343 runs with 9 wickets

...Smith still to bat :)

Yeah, news just came in

"Smith came back from the hospital with huge plaster on his hand. Sign of end of the tour for him," says Uchit Shah.

Nope, he was to have gone home after this test.

The question is - with Smiff and Prince off the field, who will captian the team on the field for the rest of this game? Boucher?

125/1 at stumps, Amla 30* Kallis 36*

Well we need to come out tomorrow and hit 400 runs, no point playing out a draw, we must bat for the win.

Ah we can do it hey... especially with the mentality carried over from our win the other day. Our guys are also good enough to do it.

I think Johann Botha

This is what frustrates me about south africa. We are chasing a huge target again. We are always chasing, never setting the pace. It's crazy! Granted we have batted last each test.

You know Ponting won the toss and decided to bat each time hey? So no matter what they post, we need to first get that score BEFORE we can set the pace. In the 1st test we came short yes and chased the game... successfully :D
In the second test, due to JP and the tail's heroics we managed to set the pace and before the Aussies had wiped out the deficit (sp?) we had a few of them out!

In this test, because Smith won't bat again, we will have to get a lead and put them under pressure, and I have faith we will ;)

Hah McKensie failed AGAIN!! If this doesn't rule him out for home series then i dunno.. I won't be surprised if gibbs opens again(esp in cpt). Hoping Smith isn't out of home series.

I think now it rests on Kallis.. he is the most senior batman. You cannot rely on devilliers, duminy, amla, boucher to score beyond their avg or 50 as they aren't as experienced? as him. Also smith out is HUGE blow as he usually contributes quite a bit via presence alone instead of e.g. kallis going his happy place in his head while wickets tumble on the other end.

Aussie commentators said he'd be out for six weeks, the first test of the Aus tour to SA is in a little less than eight weeks. But that's just the commentator's opinion.

Yup! DJK and the boys - how many MORE chances must he be given? He dropped a catch too, didn't he?

Unless he scores a double ton in the second innings, I'm with you on finding a potential replacement. He's still a class batsman with good stats to his name but he's lost form completely - it almost seems to me like the situation has been bigger than him this time around. My gripe was people calling for his axing after the 1st test. I aways said give him until the last test to prove himself, and in my books he hasn't done that, so I won't feel it unfair if the selectors decide to replace him...
