Do police act on all crimes reported? Do people report all crimes? How many crimes are reported wrong? If you know that, you would probably be closer to the real crime levels. But since nobody would know, I wouldn't call the current stats accurate.
 
From his point of view, with his armed guards and Blue Light Gestapo, crime is not a problem because he is completely insulated from ordinary voters who are the victims.

Same goes for Zuma and all his inept cronies.
 
Frankly, I cannot keep count of the number of people I know personally who have been victimized by some sort of crime. This is surely not normal? :confused:

Why wouldn't I ? We're not a third world country ? Any country that still has 20% of it's people in informal settlements and a life expectancy less than 60 can not call itself first world.

I don't bother to report crime, the police are not interested.

I'm sure that applies to many people, so how accurate are those statistics ? Way lower than actual, I'm sure !

For sure - but the way stats drive the world - if we increase the population, we'll increase the number of murderers to match :)

What we have to do is rush them in, hang cameras around their necks, and drop them off near townships or on farms all before the stats catch up.

Same goes for everywhere ! Do you really think South Africa is worse than most countries in this aspect ? A trip to South East Asia will expose to you how real corruption looks and operates. Where the cops are, and this is not a metaphor, a crime organization in uniform. Our stats are definitely more accurate than most countries out of Western Europe, East Asia and North America.

I bet you would report a murder ! And even if you didn't the statisticians would report it from the death certificate issued. Do you think people in Somalia, colombia, Thailand , Cambodia etc report crimes all the time ? When half the victims are probably murdered by the police ? If our murder rate is distorted (which I suggest it isn't) then it's less distorted than most.

Move away from JHB. Serious crime here by the coast is extremely rare for middle classed people.

How would the Police stats reflect a death certificate?

It might reflect on other stats (Health Department maybe?), but not those of the Police.

The crime stats are underreported in this country, the ministers have targets to reach as in the education department pass rate... As long as it looks good on paper then the problem is under control. You can trust this scumbag government at your own peril.
