Crime in SA is not that big a problem

I live in Port Elizabeth. Just last week my cousin and her boyfriend were mugged by two knife wielding guys.

Some might say that it is a positive that they were not hurt, but any situation that involves getting threatened with a weapon is not one I am likely to see in a positive light.

The cops on the ground don't need to be "in on it". It is the top levels that report to government, like our esteemed Brigadier.

No, we simply don't trust the SAPS, or the government, to actually supply accurate information on anything.
If I don't have access to the raw data, I don't trust the stats.

They are all fighting poverty. But no success, Crime is all over the World, so is poverty. Except in Germany people have never heard of
anti hi jacking devices or burglar bars. Every Murder is reported on National Television , imagine here you would need an extra Channel.
In Frankfurt they reported around 140 homeless people. It's a very big City. So compare that.

We all know crime is a problem. The issue in SA is that the police would rather deny it than work on it. Yes we are not the worst. What are we doing to be the best? Fut all. Deny deny. THat is what we do.

Where did anyone say it's ok ? It's not ok in the slightest. Like I said top 50 is nothing to be proud about at all. But why have people make the situation out to be worse than it is ? How does this help ? All it does is make people feel hapless and defeatist. It seems it's some people agenda to make everyone miserable and give up on their country by implying we have some magical inability to do anything right. Which is rubbish given that we have already gone a long way in improving our crime situation. Murder is down by 44% since 1994, car theft by 50% since 2004. But that's not good enough at all. It's still far too high.

Do you see how to not totally **** speak your country is different to fellating it ? A nice middle ground ?
 
Hey as long as were on par with the course right? Then its all good. Why should we want to live in safety. I am sure all south africans enjoy building themselves mini-fortresses just to be able to live.

Not a month goes by where a neighbor, or someone in my street, someone in my extended family become victims of crime...

But hey, as long as its 0.49 its all good. As long as were not number 1, but number 9. Why improve anything? That is why South Africa will never be a first world country, cause of people like John Galt and many like him, who never see a real problem with anything. Everything is an exaggeration and a media conspiracy to paint south africa in a bad light. As long as we dont compare to the worst places on earth like Somalia , then were doing just fine.

That is such a blind and ignorant attitude to have.

That is the problem I have. It's not worse than we make it its worse cause we get used to it. WE say: Africa is not for pissies and grin about the close encounter we had, THANK GOD I WAS JUST RAPED THEY COULD HAVE CUT MY HANDS OFF AND KILLED ME!! I'm soooooo lucky!!

THat is how bad it is. It's not as bad as we make it it is worse because we try to down play it.

Then you're not looking. A gross majority of people here would have those not in the know think this place is a million times worse than it really is. I had to leave a girlfriend because she refused to travel here with me thinking for sure she would be killed for example. If you know the sleepy town I live in you would laugh at that thought. I made her go on a forum and try to ask people to just admit that it was extremely unlikely for that to happen to her. Instead they hijacked my good intentions to push their little agenda and scared the hell out of the girl. Even a few "If you avoid certain areas and be aware you will be ok" was too much to ask. Idiot.s
