Crime Website Offline

I do not for one minute say that there is no crime in South Africa or that it is a problem

the website is anecdotal at best, a warped perception of reality at worst.

Anecdotes or victim stories, more than other stories, are usually exaggerated, due to the emotional state at the time

many of you believe the crime rate has increased dramatically, let me share with you what has happened according to my perception

crime has not increased, it just affects other parts of the population, b4 94 the police only had to ensure that white suburbs are protected, leaving an entire police service to protect a minority of the population, criminals then targetted as they always do the soft targets, those who were not protected

with the comming of democracy, the police have to protect the entire population, and the predominantly white areas with less security and more wealth became the targets

As more and more black people have been moving into previous white suburbs, the crime levels have remained the same, indicating that crime affects areas where there is wealth more ( race is not an issue to a thief your value is )

My home ( not in a white suburb ) was burgled over 5 times before 1994, it has never been burgled since - why don't you check out these types of statistics before purpoting to give people a true depiction of the situation in South Africa.

The website only serves to keep tourists and their money away from South Africa, money which would have reduced criminals, but crime that will now affect you and your rich friends and family

THINK BEFORE YOU ACT
Exactly!

are there stats, i mean 100% reliable sats that show crime per capita % etc since say 1990?
stats that show which race groups are effected etc?
since there is so much difference between gov reporting and the coroners fugures, how would one attempt to utilize stats?

Sorry I forgot, there are no stats, pre 1994, or if there is they were doctored so much, they are not even worth looking at, never mind the paper it's printed on

Tell me where do you rely on 100 percent accurate stats, certainly not this website.

do you reasonably believe that Government would change death figures, figures which are so easy to check out, if it is so prove it to me and to the Government

That is how we managed to get the proper figures of how many people were slaughtered by the Apartheid regieme to the International media, despite what their official reports said

I commend this guy for what he's trying to achieve with his site, more power to him!

I have received a couple of uniforum ticket emails with domain update requests. It goes beyond me though because I certainly am not trying to scare anyone away from South Africa.

this is shocking, kingmonty.

It made government sit up a bit, they (government) even mentioned it on international media.

And **** your anecdotal blah blah blah, my mother was hurt last week when a bag snatcher ran full speed into her after grabbing a gogos big handbag.

And **** you for thinking we are all ****ing rich (I struggle by every month and drive a little Uno, if its stolen due to crime I'm up ****creek), and for excusing the government cause they have to police more of the populations, they didnt have to spread out the policing, what they could have done was spent those 10's of billions of rands the security ministry gets on building up capacity in ALL areas.

Great post, people look at the crime problem from an extremely narrow point of view.

i would like to propose that all myadsl members, who are able to assist in tracing these threats, please do so. if we don't help each other, who will?
;)

Here's a mission for all those against these crime exposure websites:

Write to the government and ask to see the crime stats for this year.

When you get a reply, come back here and tell what they said.
(I won't hold my breath)

---Just read a terrible crime story-- (Lots of pictures but not that gory)

I support he crime expo sa to a certain extent because it can offer a way to keep the goverement on it's toes - but http://www.southafricaiscrap.blogspot.com/ I find plain insulting, it is completly negitave and does not appear to be throught through at all. Take for example the following quote from the site
The attitude of the government appears to be that useless jet fighters, submarines and overseas holidays (on the taxpayers’ expense, see the deputy president’s recent holiday shopping trip to Dubai) are more important than people’s lives.
Now while I may agree with certain parts of that ;) - I do not agree for example with the mention of the arms deal.

His argument here is not thought out, have you prehaps not thought that South Africa cannot afford to be a millitry-free state?

And that avitar of the author - what that shows (again) is plain negitivity without trying at all to think of solutions - I am afraid that I agree that someone who does not think as I have explained really should just leave :(

But then I don't want to get involved in any flame wars ;) so leave me out of it

Wrong. It does plenty. For example, this discussion is taking place as a direct result of the existence of the website.

many of you believe the crime rate has increased dramatically, let me share with you what has happened according to my perception

Incorrect. Of course crime has increased dramatically. Check your local morgue for evidence of this.

crime has not increased, it just affects other parts of the population, b4 94 the police only had to ensure that white suburbs are protected, leaving an entire police service to protect a minority of the population, criminals then targetted as they always do the soft targets, those who were not protected

Crime HAS increased nationwide. That is a fact. You just have a warped view of things.

with the comming of democracy, the police have to protect the entire population, and the predominantly white areas with less security and more wealth became the targets.

As more and more black people have been moving into previous white suburbs, the crime levels have remained the same, indicating that crime affects areas where there is wealth more ( race is not an issue to a thief your value is )

You make no sense. In any country, the police force protects every citizen so why must SA have a major crime problem because it protects blacks and whites? That is a normal practice in every country. This is a lame excuse.

My home ( not in a white suburb ) was burgled over 5 times before 1994, it has never been burgled since - why don't you check out these types of statistics before purpoting to give people a true depiction of the situation in South Africa.

What does that prove? Do you believe we can draw statistical conclusions from that? Get real...

The website only serves to keep tourists and their money away from South Africa, money which would have reduced criminals, but crime that will now affect you and your rich friends and family

You seem to think crime only effects rich people. You have no clue.
