Cryptocurrency Mining

So basically the 1070's use around 90 watts of electricity, but costs almost twice as much as the 580's which in turn uses 150 watts of electricity.

The 1070's route will be a bigger capital layout initially, but in the long run you will save a lot on your electricity bill if you go the 6 gpu way?
You can flash bios of rx580 to make it use around 100watt. With Nvidia you just move the power slider which is nice.

Problem with AMD's is keeping them cool. Don't know how they're doing with the newer cards because i switched to Nvidia but the 7970's and 7990 days you could warm up an entire house running them.. they were hideous to keep cold and sucked power to no end.

Just remember AMD cards normally run higher and they are fine running at 90deg unlike Nvidia cards ;)

Don't let the temps scare you on AMD cards.

I had 13 x 7970's spread over 2 motherboards. I will forever be afraid of AMD cards :)

Now that is just insane :D

Just commenting though that AMD cards do run a lot hotter than Nvidia cards in general. Talking about single and SLI. But jirre, 13 cards, that would generate enough heat to smelt iron :D

My 1070s now acts a a heater in my house that pays me to use it :P

No, whats insane is that I built those rigs for OTHER types of analysis. Since 2011 i've had multi-GPU rigs.

It never occurred to me to mine with them at that stage.... :(

I've had a killer business idea ;)

1) Get one of those perspex biltong boxes
2) Drill more holes in it for airflow
3) Place mining rig inside
4) [-]?????[/-] Dry biltong, heat house, mine coins
5) Profit!!

Seems legit to me

Right, so I did a few calculations. *Please correct me if I'm wrong*

Working out the profitability on running a rig with 4x GTX 1070s

Hashrate - 25 (each) x 4
Power consumption - 250w (each) x 4 = 1kwh
1kwh = R 2.00 (prepaid) give or take a few cents
Current ethereum price - $ 169.69
Rand/Dollar 12.92

So using: https://www.cryptocompare.com/minin...it=MH/s&PowerConsumption=1000&CostPerkWh=0.15

Looking at a profit daily of: $12.10

R 156.33 per day profit or R 4 689.96 per month
Depending on the price fluctuations ofc.

Not a bad deal, right?
Will be farming about 0.09250 eth per day.

Anything I might have missed?

Spot on, only thing you need to consider is that the difficulty increases constantly, so each month you'll mine slightly less than the previous month

What I took into consideration was that the scarcity should increase the value logically speaking right?
And obviously given the volatility that could be either very good or very bad. But high risk high reward right? :o

1070 uses a 100watt and not 250watt.

They make 28mh even more when overclocked.

My heavy overclocked 1070s do 31mh each and uses about 160watt.

Now I know why the RX 470 and RX 570 is sold out everywhere.

They do 29MH/s, uses less than 100W and you can buy two of them for the price of one GTX 1070.

I'm pretty sure the GTX 1070 under 100% load maxes out around 160W.

Hashrate should be 28+ for a GTX1070 mining eth, power should be under 150w since that is the max tdp of the card (I recall seeing as low as 90w though with the right tweaks)

RX570 costs R3100?
But a card in stock doing something is better than no card doing nothing :p
