Cryptocurrency Mining

Can anyone recommend what cards I should be looking at buying please? Want to get this system up and running.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Are you able to mine all the coins with them - ether, eletroneum etc? Any coins you recommend?
Not sure about what coins they can mine
Also getting info together now
I'd mine something like siacoin with a lower difficulty

Any info on using these cards:

XFX Radeon RX580

580's are really hard to come by.

edit: would 6x 1060's not also be an option? Also is there a huge difference with going with the 3G vs 6GB (nvidia) or 4GB vs 8GB (AMD) or is it not that noticable comapred to price?

I would go for 1070s personally.

On another side note Amazon had good specials in December for RX580 8GB (R4225) and RX570 8GB (R3339 per card excl shipping and tax with tax and shipping came to R4067) but have not seen them at that price this year.

If I can find 580’s would that be the better choice to go for instead of the 1070’s?

Yeah I looked on Amazon but no stock.

and...how is it?
:-p
Sorry for the delay. They perform like any other 1070, I suppose. Clocks better than my buddy's Gigabyte 1070 WF3, and about as silent. Not the best build quality (no LEDs, no backplate) and construction but it seems like a solid card.

The fans make an odd whirr when they turn on (fans turn off below 50*C but you can adjust the threshold with MSI Afterburner), but other than that I really have no gripes

gtx 1060 3gb cards, seems to be not too overpriced atm.

This guy makes decent mining rig videos.

Rx vega and rx 580s is king of crop atm, hence no stock. Gtx 1070s also sold out!

So if I can’t find 580’s the 1060’s will also work? Will I loose out a lot going that route? Will want to run the machine 24/7 so looking for best cards for that use and profit.

1060s will work also, they do make less money but also cost less. Also less hassles as you don't need bios mod.

OK so first prize will be 580’s then. Will also work out cost for a 6 GPU rig of each and see if the price difference is justified. What would you do?

Is the BIOS mod hard to get working on the 580’s?

Bios mod is not that hard, just follow the guide

I would go for 1060s, they priced around R3900 atm on wootware.

6x 1060 makes around 22 usd a day. R23400 for 6 cards.
6x rx 580 makes around 31 usd a day. R37200 for 6 cards.

Hmmmm... putting it that way it seems to get to ROI it should take between 3-4 months on the 1060’s and 580’s (if my simple calculations are correct?) or am I missing something?

Going 1060’s would mean I can get the system up and running much sooner tho. I’m really torn between the two now. 9usd a day difference works out to roughly R3k difference a month.

Another small thing that may or may not make a difference is that the 1060 requires 1x 6-pin power connector whereas the RX580 seems to require 1x 8-pin connector

My two rigs I spent R70k to setup are now mining purely for profit, recovered the initial outlay.

For the new comers, with the fear of sounding like a doubting Thomas - bear the following. In the coming weeks, with this 2nd wave of mining interest, and after all these new rigs are connected online, mining and stable, a large drop in profitability is likely. Been there. This, however, will be mitigated should the values of alts continue to climb in the coming months.

My advice, don't cash-out all your BTC/ALT earnings. Here is a fun fact. Had I not sold - I would be holding close to 300k in BTC. I also realise that many of you wish to expunge the initial investment, as did I. If so, try to only cash 50% and invest 50% in alts. You never know you luck in a big city.

Second fun fact. Had I bought BTC for R70k instead of GPUs, I would be holding close to 1 bar. Yeah I know, hindsight and all of that......

Couda Soulda Shoulda... Well done on sticking it out and hitting ROI on your kit. All free money from here :)

As this is the mining thread :P Any CPU only coins worth 'mining' with my laptop gathering dust at home? Tried Electroneum but the yield is very very low 2 per day at a whopping $0.2 profit... Seems the difficulty for ETN is a bit high for my super underpowered mechine, maybe ByteCoin? Anyone have any luck? And yes I know I'm not going to reap bucket's of coins, just want to give the laptop something to do :P

I just point my laptop to nicehash for the jokes lol

But yes maybe try bytecoin.
