Cryptocurrency Mining

I have been plugging out my monitor when away, the transformer gets hot even when screen is sleeping, so obviously using some power there. B.t.w., hit 150 h/s just now, fiddled around some more and lost the settings so back to 146/147 now. If you say second thoughts, do you mean for good or bad ?

EDIT: I see you are also on equihash/zcash but a different miner has spawned for you.
Bad, so bad that I've just sent a mail to Wootware to say that I'd rather wait until they get stock of the AMD cards. That being said, I still like the low power concumption, so I'm not 100% sure yet.

About the miner, yours give you quite a bit more info - I'm not convinced that all equihash miners are optimised in the same way because the 1050 is quite a bit better than the 270x based on GPU Boss. So it might just be the miner that's not processing the algorithm efficiently enough.

edit: about that question about the CPU mining...

The CPU mining is profitable, but considerably less so in relation to power consumption ratio than the 1050. With some appliance active in the flat and activity such as boiling water and cooking and only the 1050 mining we consume about 55c to 75c per hour electricity on average, with CPU mining enabled as well, it jumps to 75c to R1.50 per hour. I'm trying to better pinpoint power consumption so for the while only 1050, then from tomorrow morning until Wednesday morning 1050 + CPU and the day after only CPU, also want to monitor with different amount of threads enabled for CPU later on. I will keep you posted.

Woot is taking pre orders for rx580, but going for R5400.
Jirre Hesus Gristus! In that case I'll ask for a refund based on the CPA and the fact that I've yet to receive the cards...and place an order with YOU!

After much faffing around this afternoon, and reading up on how to use Geth, I managed to delete the DB I have partially downloaded, and i am now downloading it again, and this time all going smoothly and according to plan.... apparently all the stopping and starting is not a good idea, it just causes issues.

If you sync gets screwed up along the way, use this

https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/1897/how-to-delete-or-reset-the-blockchain-in-geth-osx

and to monitor the number of peers and your blockchain sync progress, use this

Congrats techead, you're the first person on MyBB using geth. I tried last week, but its way too much effort :o

I have no eta on any more atm. With few people waiting for cards. Pricing is bad but might be worth it in the long run.

Another heads up for those who aren't aware of this yet:
Don't run your miner headless, I moved my PC to a spare bedroom since, with the broken two blades, the thing is now working on the wife's nerves in the lounge.

Have you forced P0 power state? I mean there are plenty of people running headless (in more ways than one :p). But seriously, you shouldn't need the monitor

@YingYang

I'm looking back at the profitability chart on nicehash for the last couple of days. Profitability was about 0.12 BTC per day with both CPU & GPU, it often peaked at 0.0015 and rarely at 0.0016. When I turned off CPU mining the GPU averaged 0.005 BTC per day.

Yet when I monitored nicehashminer the CPU's $/day was always about a third of total and the GPU 2/3. So regardless the USD/BTC fluctuation the GPU should have been about 2/3, thus 0.008 BTC per day. Even with whatever determines the profitability rate on Nicehash taken into account there seems to be something odd. I think there is something askew with their profitability algorithm/calculation (the 0.005 on GPU makes it look as if it is the GPU doing one third instead of the CPU)

Anyway, I will leave it running and do the combined tests again tomorrow while monitoring profitability and graphs.

well dont pop the champers just yet... peers for my blockchain sync are going up down like a yoyo

sitting at about 55% and will have to leave it over night to finish. Then hopefully I will be able to test mining in the morning with Claymore Dual Miner

So what are you guys using then?

Those with adequate GPU's seem to be mostly on Nicehashminer. Minergate also works. Worth investigating alternative command line miners where you can specify a pool of your liking where pool fees may be lower. Nicehashminer is very convenient because of its automatic algorithm switching.

I have not read good things about Minergate, stay away.

gees this NiceHashMiner is easy... just download and install and click go lol

seems my 1070 can do 0.00015102 BTC per day.. Is that bad/good for a 1070? I dont know much about BTC

says 115.100H/s

You should be getting considerably more than that on Equihash using Nicehashminer. My 1050 is doing 147 H/s though overclocked.

Profitability calculator:
https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc
says you can get 435 H/s

unless you are on a different algorithm in Nicehashminer, did you do the benchmarks ?

Hey guys,

So I'm new to all of this and I've been reading up on all of it for a the past few weeks but I would like to know where you buy Alternative coins?

Is there any websites that I can do this on?

This here is the dirty miner chat. You want the snazzy suits in some other thread if you're buying/trading.

Ok on the benchmark for Equihash I got 390 H/s not too far off the 425
