Cryptocurrency Mining

Good day guys,

Yes yes, yet another build... Opinion on the following components please, yes I know there is a shortage and yes I know I'm going to wait, but in the meanwhile let's shoot some holes in my build:

GPU: 5 x Sapphire rX-580 - Nitro+ edition - 8Gb Oc
MOBO: 1 x Biostar TB250-BTC+
Risers: 5 x PCi-E(1x) -> PCi-E(16x) powered
CPU: 1 x Pentium G4400 - dual core , 3.3Ghz
RAM: 1 x Corsair Vengeance 4Gb x 2 kit
PSU: 1 x Coolermaster Vanguard 1200w (or CORSAIR HXI1200 Platinum)
SSD: WD Green 120G SSD
Frame: Mining Frame
Extra's: Power Button and USB 3.0 Adapter Cable for 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD Drives

The Adapter cable is to install Windows Pro on the SSD while I wait for all the other components, can be used as removable storage...

Most people will say 4Gig RAM is enough, but trying to future proof it a bit, thus the reason for the CPU also...

Any suggestions?

I would not spend top dollar on nitro cards the extra hashing is normally not worth it.

If you waiting you might want to go for andyson 1200watt platinum to save some bucks.

Right, so you saying rather go for the Pulse? Pulse being the vanilla version without the extra overclocking and kief led lights :P

Andyson... will have a look thank you, was going for the Coolermaster as I know the brand name...

Yeah or gigabyte cards is good also.

Yeah andyson is but unknown name, but I have used them before. Seems to work fine.

Thanks.

Going to build it now and install windows and drivers now.

Hopefully all works fine.

So I installed everything and when I boot up the cpu fan cooler spins and the Psu fan spins - no display on monitor tho and after a few seconds the Psu fan stops but cpu cooler fan still spins. No GPU’s connected either. Any idea what could be causing this problem?

Which Motherboard?

Mouse and keyboard lights up and cpu fan spins. Just no display and Psu fans don’t spin. Not sure if it a feature of Psu where fans only spin when needed. It’s an EVGA 850GQ

Yeah that's normal for PSU's, is HDMI plugged into onboard VGA? if not then try that, you might have to boot into windows with onboard 1st then install display drivers.

There is no onboard vga or hdmi only dvi so using dvi to hdmi converter.

First tried connecting to GPU (hdmi) but had same issue.

Not really sure what the issue could be, maybe try taking out the Bios battery for a few seconds then stick it back in to default the Bios and see if that makes a difference.

Edit: I've done this several times after updating the Bios on my Biostar BTC250, I would end up with a Black screen.

Must have been the dvi to hdmi converter. Found an old monitor here with dvi and connected that and screen came on first time. Now to install windows quick. Hopefully that was all the issues.

Weired it didn’t connect with gpu tho via hdmi unless it needs the drivers installed first. But let’s see.

So got windows to boot off the 1 gpu but now when I try install the nvidia driver I get the following error:

“Nvidia installer cannot continue. This Nvidia graphics driver is not compatible with this version of windows.”

Not sure what to do now. Downloaded DDU to make sure everything was removed but get same error.

What version Windows? Early Windows 10 builds give that error usually

Make sure you have installed 64 bit Windows not 32bit, I've done that before :)

Definitely 64 bit but I think the issue is the version of Windows 10 - need to do all updates which apparently fixes the issue so busy updating now.

And yet another noob question or questions.
What programs/apps/ software do you use to mine and what wallets do you use to store said proceeds from mining.
If i don't want to use nicehash wallet do i just put in wallet i want to use in the downloaded mining program?
