Then you just got uncapped unshaped for an incredible price, with the option of shaped if you have a heavy usage month, that effectively won't shape what's important to you when you need it. And that's the beauty of these accounts. They even allow you to still get your large downloads after hours once shaped as well, and in my experience, nntp and torrents fire off this time in any case if it has been automated.

And in your case btw, we could have kept you on 10Mbps with the line transfer and no additional costs involved compared to what you would have been paying Telkom for the line rental.

We charge R360 for the 10Mbps line. And R599 for the Fusion account. Combined that's what you would have been paying for our 10Mbps service + Telkom line rental as well.

I saw that yes - I just figure, since I don't really need the speed (although I'll have to see how my house mates react), I may as well save a couple hundred bucks in the process.

I look forward to not having to deal with Telkom!

@Crystal Web. Has there been any update from Telkom regarding the streaming fault you reported here in Noordhoek?

Yes, they responded and said please await future updates. They then responded again with an acknowledgement and said that we should please await further updates. They then responded and asked us to please stop bothering them and that we should await further updates.

So we're going to call again tomorrow to bother them and to try to get another update.

None on the capped if you want to go that route. You can use it whenever you like, but we'd prefer more after hours usage of course. But we're not imposing those restrictions on the unshaped portion, to allow you even more flexibility. You can use it when you like, and we've provisioned capacity for that. Thereafter, we shape to keep the network working optimally.

What would happen if there is no network constraints after I am done with my 100GB of unshaped data, would you ease up on the shaping?

No, the shaping is not dynamic in that we'll unshape everyone when the network is quiet. If the network is quiet enough to do that then we're losing money and don't have enough customers. We set the shaping policy on a standardised basis of cost and performance. So that you can know what to expect, and at what price, and that it's sustainable to us as a business.

If i'm not mistaking, that's how Afrihost currently works with a lot of unhappy customers.

I think the fusion uncapped is an awesome idea. For me it's going to mean an unshaped experience since I hardly go over 150gigs :D
Personally I wont change my download habits and will still leave my large unattended downloads to run between 00:00 and 06:00.
I do it coz I want to be responsible and not load the network unnecessarily not becoz I'm forced.

This is special pricing as well being extended to early bird customers and those who sign up now. If you grab them now, that's your price moving forward irrespective of price increases, in the same way that we ran the old accounts.

Look, in terms of the custom deals we did, some customers truly either can't afford the new prices in which case it's unfair of us to force anyone into that position. Ordinarily I'd say take it or leave it, I'm not running a charity here. But you guys are mybroadband members - a community that Paul and I hold dear to our hearts and the community that was the catalyst for this business' inception. So we bend over backwards to accommodate you guys. Other customers have very, very specific requirements that need a little tweaking to products here and there. Again, for mybroadband members we bend over backwards.

Also bear in mind that considering most customers are from mybroadband, we have on average far, far higher usage and therefore costs on our accounts than any other ISP out there. So grab that sign-up form and send it to friends and family for us and we'll continue looking after you guys as best we can.

And if I organised something unique and special for you, then feel like the VIP you are to us and keep it between us. We spoke privately, and I arranged something for you in private. Shout it from the rooftops internally, please. :D

I assume this was meant as a comment in general as we definitely haven't spoken via PM recently :D On other fronts thanks for the clarification. :)

It makes me happy to see/hear a ISP doing that fight instead of me the end user. :)

/I haven't forgot about the extra R50, it should happen sometime this week/weekend :p.

As I have a household of 5 different people using the account.
It is easy enought for me to know my internet habits, but knowing the rest can be a bit iffy.
My youngest son is a gamer a little bit of streaming & P2P, my wife a streamer ( I SAID STREAMER NOT SCREAMER :p ) My eldest son & daughter should be a mix of browsing, streaming, & gaming, with myself browsing, limited streaming, a bit of VPN from JHB to Cape Town, work related, and a few http downloads.

Would it be beneficial to CW's bank account to suggest that I should rather have this package, or I am on overkill/underkill and should rather go for package B, at a loss/benefit to their bank account, but Kudo's to their Karma?

Having a high speed connection, does not imply that mega Gb's are required rather that it needs to be there when required, e.g. A 2MB account that downloads 400GB compared to a 20MB account that downloads 400GB, assuming that 30% is downloaded in the Graveyard shift, (I have not worked out exact MB amounts).

After all, We think we know what we require, but they are basically the only ones that can tell us what we really need, given our history.

There isn't supposed to be shaping?
Unless you were moved to a different pool?

If whatever traffic started the shaping is not detected for at least one hour the shaping relaxes.

This is on the basic entry uncapped which you are being upgraded from next month to unshaped.
