Just to let you know, Afrihost connected fine.
Lost out on a greater rift and some lewt, but meh.

Also had an issue last night where lost connection to eso. Had to log the mweb account to continue gaming. Skype and other services where unaffected.

Power cycled my router this morning and now no connection. Some issue with dns it seems. Will have to troubleshoot it tonight when I get home. :/

Hey CW dudes

How do you feel about throttled NNTP during "peak" hours?
Say, restricted to 30% of line speed (My netflix was unaffected while I was testing it)

My guess would be that 80% of the users used NNTP in peak hours. That and the NNTP service itself also has a limit I would guess, even if your data is 100's. Only a guess though. :)

The only hassle I'd really see there, is that it's ok when "a few" people do it, but make it the norm and having everyone doing it could change that picture for CW's planned allocations.

'swhy I'm asking them ;)

I know you guys (CW) cant do anything about this, but man I wish nowvideo.sx and novamov.com streamed as nice on CW as it does on Mweb. But TBH Mweb is the only ISP nowvideo.sx and novamov.com works perfect on that I have found.

That's already the nntp implementation but we reserve the right to change it back to blocked if need be, depending on network load.

?
I'm still on my unshaped quota, if I unthrottle it it hits 1.1MB/sec ;)

So is it ok if I restrict to 300 outside of 11pm-6am? Or is it preferable that i block completely?

I also misunderstood. I thought you meant once the shaping kicks in.

No, we're not going to shape this aspect of the freebie unshaping. We'd prefer that you shape it yourself, to whatever suits you best, while remaining cognizant of what we've previously mentioned about customer best practice for optimal network load.

I know you're not going to shape it. I'm asking if doing this is "good enough" practice or should I restrict it more... Just looking for advice to help preserve the awesomeness.

You need to figure out the best service to use.
Filenuke & Gorrilavid always perform.

Not enough data yet for me to give you a definitive answer. Ask me in 2 months' time. ;)

OK, I'll leave it on. Pretty sure it will be very low traffic though, given the normal time of releases.

Please PM me if you spot it becoming an issue... :)

Will do, and I appreciate the eagerness to help. Systems are looking good though. We have a monthly standing order capacity upgrade which by the looks of things will give us headroom, growth, and current performance.

BUT, this month's data is proving a little anomaly again. We gave free unshaped data and customers started hitting it within 2 days, I kid you not. At that rate we'd have to can giving out this data entirely. It places massive strain on the network when guys hit the network hard like that. Hoping it smooths over in terms of usage over the coming months though.
