There is an automated response to the exchange submissions. Well, there should be. Looks like a few messages were stuck in the outgoing spool and I'm trying to get them to fire off at the moment.

With regards to payment, please let us know about this. There is no payment required for the 3 week trial of this system.

When I signed up I asked support to send me the payment details for my account, they said it was automatic and I would receive something in the coming days, haven't yet. I signed up on the 2nd, when do I need to make the payment?

Immediately. :D

Please send me your details by PM (name, email, crystalweb username) so that I can investigate)

Let me share with you some more data: this is the exchange connecting Noordhoek:

Noordhoek_exchange.PNG

Last night I was still calibrating the algorithms to exclude testing latency from the equation. I got this right at about 3am this morning as you can see from the above. Now we start to get some proper exchange performance data. As you can see, from about 8:30am in Noordhoek the exchange gets busy and response times increase. In fact they double. This is data one can work with to rule out issues, or spot issues. We also have access to the raw data for analysis, so I can tell you exactly how your exchange was performing last night at 5pm, for example, if you've subscribed to our trial.

This means that we can actually rule out the exchange as well as pick up issues. It's a better quality of support in our opinion.

Seeing that makes me happy.
You should have seen what it was like when it was congested a year and a half ago, took me forever to get that sorted out.

But I'm really excited about this level of insight into the exchanges.
Glad i signed up for it.

Great to hear. Would you be willing to pay a once-off fee for access to this sort of information and for us to use it in supporting you in future?

Definitely, as long as the price is with-in reason of course.
I personally am the type of person who has all types of monitoring programs on my pc because i like to know about everything that is going on. So to me this type of information access is appealing.

I answered before but I will answer again. Yes!

BTW I still have not received my Exchange email yet :). Still misfiring over there? :p

Those graphs are amazing :D. Does this mean you guys have access to max speeds supported by YOUR users ? I am wondering if it isn't possible for users outside CW able to check their current / max speeds (kinda like WA did?).

So happy to hear good news on the International front, even as a non CW user i am excited :p.

We should get an early bird special if we are going to pay after the 3 week trial :D. I even put the info in my sig :p

Certainly. We have no intention of profiting from this moving forward so the costs to end users will be in line with or slightly below our internal costs of running such a system.

If not, then I apologise. Here's the email that should have gone out:

Hi there,

Please read the below information carefully and follow the instructions:

Thanks for your application to participate in the Crystal Web State Of The Telco Nation database and performance monitor. The purpose of this system is to offer you a better quality of support on both your ADSL line and ISP account, no matter who your Internet Service Provider is. Whether you're a Crystal Web customer or not, you can now pull detailed historical and live data of your specific exchange performance. Crystal Web will use collated information for submissions to network operators to resolve highly congested exchanges, as well as submit frequent reports to telecommunication publications. Both live and historical data will be available to Crystal Web customers via their customer portal, and our agents will use this data to offer a higher quality of support to our customers.

Crystal Web customers will receive this added benefit for a discounted once off price. Non Crystal Web customers will receive this detailed data for a small monthly fee. Our trial customers will receive data free of charge for up to 3 weeks, as well as contribute towards the calibration and configuration of the system by allowing us to collect preliminary data.

Please run a tracert to www.crystalweb.co.za or if you're unsure how to do this, download and run Zertop's tool for Windows here - http://zertop.com/files/DiagnosticsTool/Windows/Current/diagnostics.exe

Please submit results in a .txt file (created automatically by Zertop's tool) or in the email body to [email protected] with the following details:

First name

Last name

Email address

Address

Suburb

City

Province

Postal Code

What are we doing with this information?

Crystal Web has access to advanced systems for monitoring your line information, which we will begin to do on your behalf from the day you are added to the system. We are not data capturing your tracerts! We use the data from the tracerts to determine which systems to run your analysis on. Thereafter we will begin to collate this information and send it out to users on a frequent basis. At a later stage, this system will be incorporated directly into the Crystal Web interface services for our ISP customers, as well as become available for non-customers to use.

Thank you,

It's possible that the .exe link was flagged as spam. Silly move on my part to be honest. I'll fix that. (EDIT: fixed)

We can check max exchange speeds, current speeds through our servers, and a whole host of other information, but only for users on our system. Pulling current speeds from users on other networks would amount to hacking into that data feed. Not sure how WA managed that.

We should get an early bird special if we are going to pay after the 3 week trial . I even put the info in my sig

We will apply a discount to our customers. ;)

I was talking about those of us who will participate in the trial and are not yet CW customers :p. Am sure you knew that :D. Respectfully that is fair too.

@exchange speeds - No, WA was able to say what your max speed supported was. I think this was spewing updated info than Telkoms speed checker at the time. With your great support now, i see no reason why anyone who has an issue or just loves all the extra info not move to you guys. Really happy to hear that all this info is available.

Oh, we query the exchanges directly for information regarding speeds, but often speeds are limited by backhaul capacity and not technical detail on the exchange. We can also query your specific line stats as well, so we can probably build an algorithm to give you an expected speed but this is just a thought and not a plan yet.

It still doesn't seem like it's going out, by the way. Sent another email and haven't received any automated response. Unless I'm doing something wrong?

This is pretty cool. I love it that it's ISP independent and I cannot help but wonder why the other ISP's aren't as transparent.

Makes me sad.

I for one would love to have access to that data.

Here is a question though; can it tell me the details of the DP my line is connected too.

In my case my Exchange has been upgrade and that thing is in perfect shape...however my DP is congested and only 4mb enabled and at that point is where I am getting congestion. Anyway to narrow that data acquired?

Unfortunately not yet. Not without Telkom's assistance, but we do have a meeting scheduled with Telkom for a fibre project where we've requested various other parties to be involved, and our plan is to propose better integration with their exchanges for this info.

I have no idea if this is even possible - or if this is information only Telkom has access to - but being able to see if the ESR port your exchange is connect to would allow you to see if the congestion is at the exchange or ESR port.

For instance with the Noordhoek exchange, it is physically impossible for the exchange to get congested because of its range. So even if every person in Noordhoek got the fastest possible connection, that is not enough to use up all the back haul as there are so few people.

However what did happen is the ESR port we were connected to in Wynberg was very congested as Noordhoek, Tokai and Constantia where on it. That's why it took us so long to get Noordhoek moved off that ESR port and onto another.

Basically the internal system of the ESR that is suppose to automatically move and adjust load across the ports to avoid this happening doesn't work properly - and still doesn't - so Telkom had to do a big port move and upgrade that Wynberg ESR.

This is also not possible without further Telkom involvement as this would entail the test having to originate from your side and not ours. We could always load you up with a remote application to perform the tests for us. This is another option, but we'd prefer to have a central point of testing, or a few points of testing around SA. ;)

You could always offer the remote option to the more tech savvy clients if they understand what they are getting them selves into.
But either way I'm still very impressed with the fact that you are able to access exchange data. If everything goes well with your international link fix - and Twitch then works for me - I will sing praise all around about CrystalWeb, that i can guarantee. Until then i with hold all judgment.

Slightly off topic, I am currently running a Netgear ADSL2+ router.
I'm in the 011-828-xxxx area & running 10Mbs at the moment. My Router Stats indicate that I have a potential 20Mbs max rate. Does that mean I should be able to upgrade to 20Mbs ADSL2+.
Possibly pass my line over to CW to handle the works & quote me on 20 Mbs? Slow down my balding & grey hairs a bit. :)
