Ahh ok I see, sorry I misunderstood you then. cloudload.com :) Given it costs you something like R80 a month for 20GB space and unlimited bandwidth, but the option to stream or download via HTTP is there once a torrent finishes on their side. The site also makes the finished torrent stream friendly. https://streamza.com/ has a XBMC add-on also, I know cloudload.com was busy with theirs a while back.

CW, Paul, just want to find out something real quick. I am looking to subscribe to this site. https://streamza.com . Now this is a site that downloads torrents on your behalf and then you can either download it via HTTP or stream it. Now since this site also supports a xbmc add-on and use their own servers I want to get your input on the following.

1. Will this site be seen as bypassing shaping?
2. Will the streaming part of this site fall under the same pool as lets say a HTTP download and will be shaped?
3. Can you see if they are part of a proper cdn network (or what ever it is called) and be able to fine tune things if they are?

Our experts on the wug say that it is most probably screwed. Curious what happens when you plug Gb to Gb in. Maybe try a firmware update?

Large downloads are shaped. You'll get line speed on HTTP downloads for a time to ensure that smaller downloads aren't shaped, but thereafter it shapes the speed down. P2P and NNTP is opened for download between midnight and 7am. This means that you can still stream, game, VPN, browse etc without any shaping. Or you can increase the unshaped portion whenever you need for ridiculously cheap prices.

Well it converts torrents (usually shaped heavily or blocked) to a service that is no longer shaped as heavily or unblocked. You do the maths. :D

But with regards to the streaming part, it's just a file host, and not a dedicated streaming site delivering content over CDN nodes.
 
Just an idea I had...

The problem most of us probably have with the fusion package is that the 100 gig unshaped uncapped part will be used during 0:00-06:00 for big downloads, but we don't want to use that unshaped cap during of-peak hours. In my case, we use about 8 to 12 gigs each day, and lets say 2- 6 gig is downloads that can be done during 0:00 and 06:00. This means that Within 8 days, I would have already used all of my 100gigs of unshaped data, of witch 50% could have been shaped/slow data.

Is is possible to split a ADSL subscription somehow? In stead of having just one ISP username and password, we have 2, with the one account functioning as the current fusion account, and the other one that's just active during 0:00 and 6:00.

I understand that its very difficult from your side to build in some function that will not use our unshapped data cap during of peak hours, but using 2 different accounts at the same time not solve this problem? I would even be happy to pay something extra each month, about R50 for a bolt-on option of some kind?

So in essence it will be seen as a service that bypasses shaping, but if used between 12am and 6am it will be all good? I understand the streaming part yes, thought I would just ask.

I'm testing something similar - I'm using a dedicated machine for my downloading (nntp) that i've dialled up to one account (PPPOE passthru), and my router is dialled up to my CW acc which will give all my other devices the access they need.

We can do this, but it will cost more though.

Put yourself in our shoes here. We've increased the bandwidth priority on the shaped portion at our cost, given you 100 gigs unshaped data and the only increases are in the R50 mark for the most part and only to some speed products, removed the feature that shapes other large download protocols when p2p is detected (on Fusion accounts), and now you guys also want midnight to 7am not to contribute towards your cap at all, so in effect giving you more daytime unshaped data and adding to our overall peak load per month per account, increasing our bandwidth requirements even further.

I am in meetings, discussions and negotiations with the developers to see what we can do about this side as well, then I'll price it out and possibly release some epic products on this basis in the future. Right now it's technically and financially not feasible at these current prices on Fusion. We're currently looking at "speed boost" services so you can select a speed boost during the shaping times if you need something urgently. We're looking at introducing night-time bolt-ons to all accounts if you'd prefer your night-time usage not to count towards usage. We're also working on a product that operates as two accounts in one and lets the advanced users QoS with multiple WAN configurations, but these are all WIP for now.

You'll actually need to give us some feedback on this. There are thousands of these services out there and we can't test them all, so best bet is to get in touch and let us know if there's a problem that we can look at fixing.

The same applies to VPNs by the way. If it's a legit work VPN and we don't yet recognise it, just get in touch and we'll sort that out.

Why not just get the 200gig Fusion uncapped?
