I want to upgrade to a new operating system, either a Vista home premium or a Windows 7. Do you think I should upgrade to vista home premium now or must I wait for windows 7 to be released and till it's stable? I'm willing to wait up to a year for the new windows 7 to be stable with service packs available.

Why wait for Windows 7???

You can install the release candidate right now and use it for a year for free.

It is already stable.

Rather wait for W7.... no need to even wait for the SP... W7 on it's own is more stable than Vista.....

Use Windows 7 NOW!! Thats an order dammit...

If you can use xp you can use windows 7, stay away from vista its makes your computer run like its a p3 with 128 megs ram (thats bad)
Oh and wait for Windows 7

I agree with the windows 7 crowd. I just installed it this past weekend and it seems very stable. It's been hugely overhyped, but I think it'll be an XP killer. Besides it's not everyday Microsoft lets you use their software for free.

Depends on your PC. If you have more than 1 CPU core, a decent GPU and 2GB RAM or more, Vista SP1 runs smoothly.

Anyone care to send me the 32&64bit RC1 of Win7 please? I'm 40km outside Durban.

+1 on overhyped!

If MS could do that(7) after Vista in such a short time they could have made it alot faster less cumbersome and secure in the normal time it takes for them to pop out a new OS.

Is the RC version exactly what they'll be selling on the shelves when it's out? Basically, when I buy it on the shelves - do I just keep the CD aside and enter the new license key to make it valid?

Does RC have any limitations?

All they do from the RC to RTM is sort out bugs, drivers and so on. Don't expect any new fancy features if that's what you're asking. Also RC is valid until June next year, but will start two shut down every two hours from March next year I think. You'll definitely have to install a clean version of the RTM, unless you still want a few bugs in your OS. RTM is just more stable and polished than RC

Don't even bother buying vista, wast of your money. Install the RC, try it out and wait untill October for the RTM of win 7.

MS does say you'll need a new license key after 1 June 2010 (not a new installation) so I assume the RC, by means of updates, will be the same as the final version by the time the launch date arrives.

As far as I can tell Win7 has no limitations. MS want's to get you accustomed to using Ultimate so that you'll shell out the extra cash when the final version launches.

LOL - you clearly haven't tried win7 yet. It beats the pants off XP, even on some of the (very) low spec machines I've installed it on.

+1. And I actually liked XP. Windows 7 is more of an OS that Vista can ever be.

Anyone willing to write Windows 7 to a DVD and post it to me? I'll pay you R50 for your troubles.
