Cyberpunk 2077

They had every right to, The Witcher 3 was a goddamn masterpiece.

And they did it in 3.5 years.

Could have been a secret "B team" that developed this, just like what happened to fallout 76.

“Assumptions are dangerous things to make, and like all dangerous things to make -- bombs, for instance, or strawberry shortcake -- if you make even the tiniest mistake you can find yourself in terrible trouble. Making assumptions simply means believing things are a certain way with little or no evidence that shows you are correct, and you can see at once how this can lead to terrible trouble. For instance, one morning you might wake up and make the assumption that your bed was in the same place that it always was, even though you would have no real evidence that this was so. But when you got out of your bed, you might discover that it had floated out to sea, and now you would be in terrible trouble all because of the incorrect assumption that you'd made. You can see that it is better not to make too many assumptions, particularly in the morning.”

― Lemony Snicket.

They had the right to, yes, but they were wrong(In their Alice in Wonder world).
Maybe this taught them a valuable lesson. I'm expecting a no.

You mention Fallout 76 which I still have on my desk and yes I also pre-ordered that game... I also have No Man's Sky with my pre-order case and stuff.
Looking at DayZ in my Steam Library

I guess we will be waiting for the next game with its massive hype starting 2021.

What is meant by its current state. This game is much better than anything out there. Some people seriously had unrealistic expectations it seems.

I am playing this game and AC Valhalla every day. This game must do much, much more that AC Valhalla to make the game world work. Its scope is infinitely bigger. They have done a great job with what have come out.

You must be joking, or have seriously low standards for games

Likely a combination of scope creep, a lack of full time development focus, number of dedicated dev members, conflicting direction, conflicting priorities, stakeholder interference, etc.

Basically all the reasons why any development project would be either late/incomplete/both.

Brace Bloodlines 2, close to the last touches their head developer of story telling (scripting) left, hired the next best possible, but there is a high possibility of the story becoming a creative mess. If they succeed, well, time will tell.

The biggest danger to that game's success will be all the "wokeness" that seems to be shaping its development.

Already refunded...

Shareholders (anecdotal) imho are more part of the problem; alongside the "exec" in their glass castles dreaming of dollar cheeze-burgerz.

I would have been fine with the game releasing 6+ months later but from what I gather the board pushed for the release, the devs knew it was not ready. It's how things work these days, boeing used to be an engineering company back in the day, bean counters gave us the 737max...

Wonder if their next iteration will be EA/When it's really done.

I don't have an issue with the "when it's ready" mantra. I'm subbed to a gta v mod that should have been released months ago but it's still not ready and subs are $10/month. Think star citizen plebs

EDIT: cp2077 is a really great game but it had the potential to be phenomenal in my eyes.

Nee. Also refunded and reworked into DoS1 which actually came out paving the way for now BG3.

edit (I still have my bronze citizen card though)

I always jest that star citizen will be released after humans have colonised the galaxy & beyond for real...

Quite an interesting explanation from MVG. Sony is going to take a lot of convincing before it's allowed back on the PS store:
