Cybersmart improves uncapped ADSL value

Try using the line if you dare. A 384k line with a regular average of 30k download speeds is throttled to a meagre 8k on Cybersmart's uncapped package! What they do not tell you in the ad is that its' a contention ratio of 15:1.
This service is actually a watered down adsl product. They should call it dialup over adsl.

I have to agree here...

On my 1MB capped Cybersmart account, I was getting 100k downloads at any time. Now on the Uncapped, I am lucky when I get 30k downloads. Also, last Saturday, I had to wait for 10 minutes for a normal 480p 3 minute youtube video to complete downloading before I could watch it.....

I am not too happy with this... I was with Cybersmart for their great speed, not their great service, and now it seems they are not offering either....

I'm with Cybersmart very happy with my performance BUT again that is on the 10G capped service. I'll rather sacrifice my torrents and enjoy my Internet experience 24hours a day.

They do have a lot of T&C but they newer really apply them. Not different from other ISP's.

I just want to know why you have to pay the setup fee of R275 if you already have all the equipment needed to connect.

You don't have to pay if you have everything. I have a 384 line and decided to give their uncapped a chance.
So far i have no complaints. I'm not a heavy user though.

Hey "Staff Writer"
Why do I always have to ask this question: Static IP's on the Business uncapped?
Surely you know to ask this by now.

I can't make sense of their site. I understand paying more for a faster ADSL uncapped service, but what baffles me still is why they charge you more per GB on a capped account if you have a faster ADSL line. They are the only local ISP I have seen doing this.

Staying with afrihost uncapped for now, always get 41kBps download speeds on my 384Kbps line, day and night.

So i'm happy with them!

Im with mweb and thinking of moving over to Cybersmart as I see there is a big difference in price. I have a uncapped 4MB line all incl. cost R899 vs Cybersmart for R695. My question is how does Cybersmart compare to Mweb on the uncapped 4MB lines? Is it worth moving over?

VERY big difference between capped and un-capped.
Agreed, it is better to sacrifice cap for speed.
The problem is that they dont specify 15:1 contention ratio. If they were being reasonable, they could have said "we will start throttling you from 15 gigs" or something explicit. Nothing, Nada.

Don't hop on the bandwagon just yet. There appears to be many kinks in their uncapped package's performance. The worst is when you download dies unexpectedly, or when you browser throws you the "Server closed the connection" error. Check my post over here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...0pm-for-384k?p=8551021&viewfull=1#post8551021
i agree with you.i was with them i had exactly same problem.i phoned them more than 10 times and they just blame uncapped internet:-) so i don"t think cybersmart is really smart option yet unless they prove us opposite.

Been on their 10mb uncapped account from the 1st of July and it has been pretty good.

Getting 700kBps-900kBps on Astraweb, and 100kBps-200kBps on torrents. File sharing sites such as Turbobit and Extabit also perform reasonably well. I find performance is best when opening multiple files using a download manager.

Same applies to Youtube. I tend to download them using a download manager rather than waiting for them to stream live. Get 900kBps-1100kBps under those circumstances.

Done 120gb so far this month.

Screenshot posted of the torrent was perhaps a bit premature.

So it's just the 384kbps and 1Mbps users that get the short end of the stick. They wouldn't possibly bundle 4Mbps and 10Mbps users with the 1Mbps ones would they? Nah, they wouldn't do that.
