It looks like Cybersmart have cancelled their weekender package with effect from the 1 June 2010 .. talk about a ridiculous notice period .. 1 week to decide of which package to take, and possibly shop around isnt that much ..

And to top it off, it got "paused" at about 12 on Sunday night .. so in effect I lost the ability to download for about 7 hours .. till I woke up this morning and noticed I had zero internet connectivity ... then after phoning the call centre, was told to "wait for 30 minutes" then I would get a popup webpage and need to click it to "unlock my browsing" .. really .. for the first time .. I am really NOT IMPRESSED .. by Cybersmart .. after singing their praises for 5 years .. they may have just done enough to lose mine and my families accounts ..

Really irritated that they couldnt at least give a months notice of their intention to disband the product

First I've heard of it. I see on their main page that the weekender package states that it's "sold out". Are you also on the 384 package, jetlee?

June 1 you say... mmm somethng tells me theyr are afraid of the potential speeds we will be reaching... might be the upgraded lines .. :tongue in cheek:

Are they just not selling any new weekender packages? or are they cancelling new and existing packages?

I am on 384k ..

They are cancelling the product .. they have substituted the NightRider package instead .. they will not be selling any more weekender, and existing weekender users will have till the 1st of June to move .. I assume that if you dont move .. you will just be "stopped" until you apply for a new package ...

When exactly does that popup window show up that you talk about jetlee? I have gone through almost the whole site and I haven't seen any. I have heard about this "popup" thing before, but I am yet to see it.

Hmm. My donwloads were stopped at 12 last night as well and I could not connect this morning. Cybersmart has not informed me about anything. They should email or get hold of their clients (or update their page) if they are up to something sneaky. That is the one thing I can say about this ISP is that they have no communication skills whatsoever. Hope it is not the end of Weekender. That was the best part about them. Time for Mweb, Axxess or Afrihost if that option is gone!

My downloads also stopped @ midnight. A popup displayed indicating that as of 1st June I'm being moved to the new NightRider option (I'm currently on Weekender 3).
But when I looked at 06h30 this morning, the downloads were working.

Theres a glitch in the matrix somewhere...

I wonder what the new night Rider option is? I am on Night Rider and Weekender 3. So will wait and see what they do. Wish I got informed. You are a lucky man SidVicious :)

Is this for everyone, or only for a couple of heavy downloaders- in order to balance out the load a bit? my connection has been resetting every 20 minutes only over the weekend, and when I phoned last night they said that there has been too much traffic over that time, which could be causing the problem... So I guess this is a move to try and even it out a bit. I dont care either way, so long as I can get stable downloads, and not have to download the same file 30 times before I actually get it.

Can anyone call their support desk or call centre to let us know exactly what they say? I would phone and post but I cannot dial out my office. So please if someone can maybe just clarify exactly what is happening and what the future holds or their plans are? :(

I reckon it's time to start reading through the Mweb feedback threads. I know they've had their problems, but cybersmarts had their problems too.

not quite a pop up .. but was diverted to a webpage that required a link to be clicked to continue browsing ..

The nightrider package is the standard one they now have advertised on their website ..

Not sure if all weekender users have been notified this way .. but they probably consider me a heavy user, as I actually use what I pay for .. so thats downloading in nightrider time and the whole weekend .. unfortunately, it seems that ISP's now expect you to pay more .. but keep your usage patterns the same .. cant quite understand why theyd think that .. ??

I woke up this morning to my internet connection cut off. I phoned Cybersmart and they informed me to wait 20 minutes and then restart my browser to get the message. I did this and a message came up informing me that my account will be terminated at the end of the month and in order to continue browsing I would have to accept changing over to Night Rider. So I phoned them again and was informed that I will exceed their "Fair usage policy" as my consumption is expected to reach nearly 30Gig by the end of the month and for this I have been considered an abuser as their limit for fair usage is 20Gig a month. What a load of BS. After 3 years of relative happiness with them I am now shopping for a new isp. Please, any suggestions guys ???. I mainly do a few Torrent downloads on the weekends.

thats pathetic, I must say- one thing I appreciated about afrihost is that they were always up front with you- you knew what was considered fair use before you signed up. these guys lure you in with wonderful promises then punish you, and call you irresponsible when you call on them to deliver. When I signed my account with cybersmart, I studied those terms and conditions- there was nothing in there to say that you could not download the entire weekend, there was nothing about fair use. on top of that there has been no communication, no emails telling us whats expected of us. If cybersmart feels that some people are abusing the system, then why not send an email, explaining the situation and telling us what they feel is acceptable use. If I know up front that I should stick to 20 gigs a month or whatever then at least I would have some frame of reference, and Im sure most people would be willing to comply

By the way when I phoned last night they let slip that they are going to try and get rid of their heavy downloaders, so my guess is that this is what its all about.... unfortunately they still have the best deal for the price, so I doubt people will leave, well until eASSY comes into play and the next round of price wars commences.

Cybersmart gone crazy

You are not alone, I too discovered this morning my internet connection had been interrupted by Cybersmart since midnight last night. Only after restarting my router several times, did I get greeted with this notice (see quote below), when trying to browse. Nice one Cybersmart! No warning, no email, nothing - just pull the plug on my internet whenever you feel like it.

FREE USAGE over weekends has come at a price - that of NO INTERNET. It seems my current download rate would have exceeded their "fair usage" policy, specifics of which I still haven't been able to find on their website. They offer you a buffet, only to put it behind a glass window.. What the hell? Is this the demise of a once great internet provider? Keep this nonsense up Cybersmart and I'm sure it will be. You owe your loyal customers an apology!

NOTICE

they really are insulting our intelligence- offers better value? how so- they have reduced the download time by 50%. from 54 to 27.5 hours?? This company is incredibly underhanded. they remind me of those used car dealers- "I swear sir, the straw car has excellent mileage"
