i have bought the dsl 2500U now i have set it up but it only stays connected for about 30 secs to one min and then i have to restart now i put my old router back and it works fine with the same setting
Could you perhaps give us more information, because your description is very vague.
1) Like is it the DSL light that goes out, or is it the PPP one?
2) Are you using a 384kbps or 4Mbps+ connection?
3) What is your line statistics (applicable to 1Mbps+ connections)?
4) With "stays connected", do you imply your Internet connection or the one to the router?
1) the DSL light goes out (if i switch to my old router though it is fine)
2) it's a 4mbps line
3)SNR Margin (dB): 17.4 14.0
Attenuation (dB): 54.0 25.5
4) i was referring to my internet
so hope this helps
EDIT
ok it just did it now i went to look now on the front panel on the router the DSL and Internet LED's are off
You're too far from the exchange to sync reliably at 4Mbps. Call Telkom's helpdesk (0800 375 375) and ask them to change your sync profile to 2Mbps.
The distance to the exchange is almost directly linked to the Attenuation value.
I'm actually surprised to see that the SNR margins are so high. Usually those SNR margins would result in perfect ADSL connectivity (ie. no disconnects).
It could just be that the SNR margin is fluctuating too much, due to interference from other devices.
