Sometimes I think democracy is overr-rated. This is a perfect example as why not everyone should get the right to vote, cuz they are to retarded to know whats best for the country and for themselves.

Dude, please go to your nearest municipal office and register to vote. It is not too late yet.

If all else fails, go to your voting station on the 18th with your ID book and ask if you can register to vote still.

Did you vote in the national elections? If so you are already registered.

The problem is that they dont learn. Exactly that situation has happened elsewhere in the country - Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo. But they still vote ANC.
 
Very clever electioneering, get it done, then vote for your party of choice. Can't go wrong when the new party fails blame the old one for a poor job. Win Win. :D
 
Democracy isn't perfect. It's actually kind of stupid, if you ask me. The best governments are benevolent dictators/oligarchies. The only reason some democracies seem to work is because they have effective propaganda to control the dumb people, or because they have a relatively small amount of idiots in their population.
 
it amazes me that we do not have voting machine in each home or dedicated voting stations for people to vote on every government proposal etc. rather than leave it to some Councillor that may have been ideal for 1 aspect but totally wrong for another. That is a true democracy and something that is totally possible with the technology of today. However, this would put a lot of politicians out of work and will never get put into place because of it.

It would amaze you how much ppl dont have access to technology too then ... ppl in this article could have benefited from reading comments on this thread if they had access to computers/internet :cry:

thats why I said they should have a permanent voting station .... this will solve the problem of people with no electricity etc. ...
The point about technology was not meant for the masses, but rather the counting of votes.
 
In an ideal world, your vote would be scaled based on the amount of tax you pay...

This is BS where most of the taxpaying people realize that their money is wasted, yet the poor that don't contribute to the system get the most say, simply because there are more of them.

sadly have to agree ... but it should not then only favour the super rich as they would pay more tax than all combined and thus negate everyone else ... there should be limit

Yes, even if you don't live in that area any more. Could be a problem if it is on the other side of the country though :)

I contacted the DA, you cannot register for these elections any more :( But if you were ever registered in past elections (national or municipal) you are good to go!

Well, the US has a similar system where the influence of your vote is scaled according to the donations you give. Which is - to all intents and purposes - corruption.

But I do think that one should have at least a matric certificate before being allowed to vote.
