DA delivers, ANC gets vote

In an ideal world, your vote would be scaled based on the amount of tax you pay...

This is BS where most of the taxpaying people realize that their money is wasted, yet the poor that don't contribute to the system get the most say, simply because there are more of them.

Sad.

Terrible notion. America would be in a lot of trouble if the rich (10%) had more voting rights than the poorer middle or low classes.
Maybe on a scale of education attainment? I don't know, but I know democracy isn't perfect (51-49 majority or uneducated voters) but it's the best system we got..

Perhaps if you look at some one who had no vote for 80 odd years, to expect a radical change in voting habits in 17 years is asking a bit much. particuarly when just before elections statements such as RM 90 upgrade coming, white criminals must give back land" etc. Who are you going to vote for in that environment?

So the ANC let's them down for 15 years, the DA gets them going, then they will switch back and expect not to be let down?

Unfair.

True, that would also not work.

Maybe your vote counts on the tax bracket scale. Even if you are stinking rich, you are still in the top tax bracket. Something like that maybe.

How exactly would that be ideal for anyone other than those that already belong to the aristocracy that is privileged by birth and wealth?
Doesn't that sound a lot like the medieval system of governement?

I like this current system of universal suffrage better - each qualifying citizen gets an equal say, rich or poor and therefore no vote buying is possible ;)

Unfortunately that system favours the witless and easily swayed, also less than ideal.

Nah there is defiantly something broken about that system in uneducated countries, South Africa is a perfect example. The uneducated masses are getting brainwashed by the ANC and they keep voting cause they don't know better.

Maybe if you have a system where you can only vote if you pasted a certain grade in school. It makes sense, because if you dont have an education you don't understand the finer issue like policies and whats best for the countries economy. You only worry about which party gives you free shirts.

See my post above. The opposition parties need to stop the political bickering and start educating the potential voters. The ANC does not have monopoly of people's votes. COPE proved this by getting 7% of the votes with just weeks of it's existence.

There are people who have got university degrees but haven't got a clue about government policies and what is best for the country's economy. Not everyone is preoccupied with politics you know. Some people only make up their minds about who to vote for during election time.

Yes, even if you don't live in that area any more. Could be a problem if it is on the other side of the country though :)

I contacted the DA, you cannot register for these elections any more :( But if you were ever registered in past elections (national or municipal) you are good to go!

Thanks so much bro. I will definitely be voting then in the upcoming election.

How so?

All the participating political parties have equal access to the electorate.

Do other parties also proclaim to be anointed by God and rule via divine decree? And is the majority of the electorate not uneducated, superstitious, and mostly ignorant of the bigger picture?

What bothers me is that people that contribute financially to the country are outnumbered by those that don't. Yet is is "my" money that is wasted by corrupt officials.

The poor that don't get taxed love the "show" that these clowns put up, yet it is my hard earned money that pays for it all.

Think of it as owning a share in a company. At the moment people that don't own a share get to say what is done, yet it is the people that work hard that have to keep the company going.

Maybe I am just a bit too capitalist and believe that you should work for your rights, not just get them handed to you...

Imagine the BEE policies that would have been implemented had this been so.

Two problems with your theory.

1. The masses aren't that witless. It's not that 'they don't know better', it's because they have no alternative. Saying that the DA is an alternative is all very well, but politics is an emotional issue (and if you doubt me, have a look at the holy wars that happen here every time the words 'Obama' or 'Healthcare' are mentioned).
2. People who are disaffected but still support the ANC are likely to stay home on voting day, rather than vote for the ANC.

The hordes of zombie ANC supporters you're moaning about are only half as big as you think they are.

In 2009:
23m registered voters. ANC got 11m votes - 48%
Black population (from 2001 census results) - 35m

Making a (broad) assumption that most South Africans vote by race:
Either 35-11=24 million black people are all under the age of 18, or a hell of a lot of them didn't vote for anyone in the last election.

Also note than in the last municipal elections in 2006, only 48% of registered voters actually voted.
