So in essence, Government wants the private companies to foot the bill while they take all the profit?

That about sums it up. Well said Dene Smuts, but if they do it your way they cant eat cake and looking at TELKOM's extended monopoly, SAT3 and the exorbitant pricing that we the public are still subjected to today, they really like their cake, so not holding my breath.
Be sure Cyril likes his with loads of icing as well.

In a statement issued by Dene Smuts, the DA spokesperson for Communications, the DA said that the Communications Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri’s “clarification” in Mauritius on undersea cables confirms the Department of Communication’s determination to get a slice of the pie and to control telecoms.

As if Government gives a damn what the DA says. Its great that the DA speaks out against what's going on, but its more like farting against the wind!.

I've lost hope ages ago, this new stint by Ivy just adds fuel to the fire and all the other little greedy scheme's government is doing against its citizens!. High time to Immigrate!.

Its actually a little amusing to think, several years ago we were shouting abuse at Telkom, but its much clearer now, that Telkom is just one of the tentacles of government, and the monster in control is ol Thabo, because he's not really willing to do anything about this greed situation going on around him!. He's only spouts about the high costs of Telecommunications to make him look good and keep his lifestyle well funded!

Precisely. A very well put response from the DA, which government idealology just won't let them agree with.

I don't know if the government / DoC believes that they really are doing the best for SA, or if they have just gone too far and are embarrassed to admit that they are wrong and just keep going hoping it'll all come right?

Scarily I believe that they really are doing the right thing for SA.

This is BS, Majority South African owned is a lie, the truth is that it must be majority "look-like-me" owned.
This is all in alignment with her policy that the non "look-like-me"'s and outsiders shall have extremely little to do with our telecoms.

Unfortunately, this policy is not bringing us closer to lower telecoms costs.

The SA government seems to have delusions of grandeur, they think that these major international companies will bow to their every whim when in reality they'll just say cheers and move on to the next country or continent and we'll be stuck with Telkom and SAT3. :mad:

What about the corruption scandal at the DoC exposed by ITWeb. Why isn't that being investigated becuase if it's true we can get rid of many DoC staff including Shope-Mafole.

She is too stupid to do things properly. We are stuck and I am tired of it. Things will not change in the right way for years to come. We are ****ed!

Please repeat after me: Doesn't matter what the government do, criticising them is not acceptable.
