Democratic Alliance Youth leader Yusuf Cassim is set to become the youngest member of Parliament to be sworn in on Wednesday.

"Cassim will be 24 years, four months and 16 days old tomorrow, making him the youngest MP in South African history," the party said in a statement.

"Cassim formed part of the DA's Young Leaders class of 2011. He became the SRC president at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2012, and the DA Youth federal chairperson in 2013."

Cassim will overtake the record set by his fellow DA member Geordin Hill-Lewis, who at the age of 24 years and seven months became the youngest MP to be sworn in in 2011.

The following year several other young MPs were sworn in, including the Inkatha Freedom Party's Mkhuhleko Hlengwa at 24 years and 11 months.

According to an SABC report, 22-year-old DA member, Katlego Phala of Mankweng, outside Polokwane, Limpopo, will become the youngest member of a national or provincial legislature for the next term when the province's legislature sits.

Not as big a joke as the joker that made the above comment! So you voted ANC like all the other morons?

Young doesnt make him good.
Why would we want a young MP or even president for that matter?
/confused

Is he related to the ICASA guy?

Well done to Yusuf. He has great energy and I hope he can sustain it :)

I am sure he did not get the job because he is not capable or do not deserve the merit! :p

Being young doesn't make him bad either, age doesn't matter as long as he is capable of doing the job.
