Is it ever ok to send unsolicited SMS messages? No is the only acceptable answer (with the provision for government emergency alerts).
The fact that it came from a political party you support should have no bearing on the fact that the behaviour should not be allowed and companies and organisations that participate is such behaviour should be admonished, not praised.
Exactly. I have never given the DA (or any other party) permission to contact me; but I did fill in my cell number last time I registered. Will getting SMS/email/phone spam change which party I plan to vote for? No, the reasons I chose them are more important than their stance on spam. But that doesn't mean that I can't be disappointed that the party that best aligns with my thinking on other matters, doesn't align with my thinking on this matter.
Have you contacted them and asked them to remove you from the list? If it bothers you so much Im sure they`ll be happy to remove you from further updates if you request it.

Getting spam is one of the things that bother me. What bothers me more, is that they think it's okay.
Are they still better than the alternative, though? Yep. I just wish they were perfect, rather than just "better than the rest"
