The Democratic Alliance would not be intimidated by political thugs, party leader Helen Zille said on Thursday.

Zille alleged that the African National Congress had bussed in supporters to Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga, where they barricaded a community hall in an attempt to stop her from speaking.

What the hell? First the IFP, then COPE, now the DA.

The ANC is losing control over their members!

Right, however once it turns violent it becomes criminal. There is no "internal" dealings with that!

You'd think the reasonably-minded would twig on how barbaric the actions of these ANC supporters are and thus twig on exactly how deeply into the ground the ANC is driving our country...

The ANC is run by a bunch of racist thugs. Hardly surprising that their supporters act out what their leaders tell them to do.

In 2006 in Crossroads Zille was attacked with chairs flung by the democracy loving ANC supporters.

Business as usual.

Welcome to African Democracy. And people wonder why with go on about Zim 2.0!

This is how they behave toward the DA who aren't even a threat to them. Handbags compared to what they'd do if the DA actually had a chance in hell of knocking the ANC out of power

Dude South Africa is not seen as a democracy according to ANC supporters *cough* thieves.

That is the problem with South Africa...when people don't like something they break stuff or disrupt things.

As a DA member (for only R10 a year) I get exposed to the real DA. They will never rule this country cause of all the in fighting and back stabbing prevents them from getting much done. There a joke to black voters and the ANC is just fueling the fire.

You obviously have your blinkers on. The change between the ANC & DA is for all to see in the Cape Town municipality. When the ANC was in charge - with that idiot called Mfeketo - there was one corruption scandal after another. Since the DA has taken charge, Helen Zille has won the World Mayor of the Year award, and there have been zero corruption scandals.

Wait... What?

Er... anyway. Attend many meetings?

It'll be a long time before anyone else comes to power. The best we can hope for is a strong (combined?) opposition to prevent at least a 2/3 majority in the next election and with some luck a 50% majority within a few years.

If we consider that General George Washington was elected president of the United States of America for two terms unopposed and that the young Federalist part stood virtually no opposition for another term is an indication of how a young democracy votes for what they know.

However, in the eventual fourth election the Federalist Party under Adams lost badly to Jefferson. The country was maturing.

I feel that South Africa, as time goes by, will eventually have a strong opposition (think ANC equating to the hero of the American War of Independence, who died the year before the 1800 election) though it may take longer than the USA.

Hopefully one day the ANC will need to earn their place in this country and not be merely granted a stay of power.

True...plus keep focusing on the other party's weak points and never on their strong points,if any.

DA is inconsequential. ANC will win with a > 2/3 majority. Lol.

Dude, go buy yourself a newspaper and read about the upheaval in politics over the last six months. The DA has close to 20% as it stands, with other parties holding almost holding a further 15%. As it stands the ANC is almost about to lose their majority.

Put the Congress of the People in the mix and the ANC is in for a fight.

I'm glad you find this all so amusing that a party attempting to gain absolute power is a joke. Thanks for the highly uninformed and useless post, it was really an absolute waste of my time.

Oh goodness look out!! We have a DA Malema in our midst! Rambling on about something, yes erm, about something, err about something! What!?

Seriously dude! You have been scammed into a fake DA card, then have never have been to a meeting or a rally in Brixton/Yeoville (Helen goes there a lot :p) The rally brought out thousands of black supporter! :)
To the closed off gathering afterwords 65-70% of the guest members were black!

Please bring me that card, I'll refund you, surely you belong in ANother plaCe!

Surely your "lol" at the end of your statement make it of as a joke!

ROLMAO...if there were so many corruption scandals why is it that all investigations instituted by the new DA-led administration has come to buggerall, zilch, naught. Really can't see any changes the DA has made except for Zille using her position to lobby for votes- which is well within her rights.

I always predicted the ANC would lose the city, not because their officials were particularly corrupt but because they came to power without the popular vote...the same thing will happen in the provincial legislature- you don't need a political scientist to tell you that.
