Really, honestly? I, as a Joburger, am jealous of how well Cape Town is run. If more cities in the Republic were run on this basis many people would benefit greatly.

Corrupt or not, the ANC has got the interests of the poor at heart. I like ANC policies and I don't like DA policies-one of these major DA policies being their denial of the need for Affirmative action and BEE. So the question is should I vote for the DA because they are not corrupt but they don't support the economic empowerment of blacks or should I vote for the ANC with its corrupt members, but support the accelerated empowerment of black people?

I will vote ANC, because the African National Congress has realised that if it has to stay in power in needs clean ethical behaviour, therfore it can only improve itself. With the emergence of Cope(better opposition than the DA) the ANC is under pressure to prove itself the majority and therefore it can only clean its act.

I supported ANC when things were bad, under apartheid and I will vote for in in this democracy which the ANC fought for and sacrificed so much for.

BEE was nothing more than another excuse for the People in power Namely the ANC to stay in power, they wanted to show the African nation that they are doing what is best for "their" people. It is a joke in my opinion, telling people how their companies have to run, etc. Makes me ill :sick:

Its beyond me that people can't understand that a party with a large majority is a bad thing for democracy. No party should be unaccountable, with a strong opposition the ANC has no choice but to clean up their behaviour, rather than auditing itself.

Furthermore, any liberal party will have the interests of the poor at heart. Unfortunately the ANC is abusing their position to buy votes, this is unacceptable. The have also renegaded on their promises to the poor of the country, this is also unacceptable.

You don't have to vote for the ANC but rather vote for another party to keep the majority party in line, rather than allow it to run riot. It may not force the ANC out of power, but it will put them in a position to do the will of the people, if they wish to remain dominant. You should be able to vote out a party that is not doing a good job in favour of one that will, this is barely an option in this country, and that is not good for democracy.

Can you perhaps point to anything to show that Cape Town is exceptionally well run? Its my home town, I love it a lot but you have to admit that Cape Town doesn't have to deal with half the issues that Jozi has to deal with.

I wouldn't dare get on a train in Gauteng, something you are able to do in Cape Town. I was also astounded by the lack of litter in the city. I may not be the best city in the world but Cape Town is definitely "better oiled" than other cities in the country.

Tourism is big business in Cape Town and the city has done a good job of assisting the industry.

In your opinion what are some examples of all these additional issues that Jozie has to deal with which don't exist in CT?

Basically Joburg has to deal with people coming into the city(from all over SA and Africa) to look for jobs and oppertunities which also brings crime. This has always been the case but there's been a steady in-flow since the early 90s. They also have more of a refugee problem than Cape Town would wish for, not because of any incompetence from ANC officials but because of the (mistaken) belief that roads in Jozi are "paved" with gold.

In Cape Town its generally easy to get things going becuase the city hasn't had to deal with the urban decay that saw buildings being abondoned in Jozi and the squatting(and other related issues) that resulted from it...I don't give the ANC credit for a lot of things but you can't really blame them for what happened in Jozi's inner city.

As long as Helen Zille doesn't start taking Capetonians for poephols she and the DA shouldn't have to worry about a thing.

I'm from Durban, and I have to ask one question... Who is Cape Towns municipal manager?... I am kind of not expecting you to know this off the top of your head... Whereas where I'm from we as citizens ALL know who ours is because he's an autocratic moron who can't do anything right, and he is very clearly a political appointee and like pulling the racism card whenever he is challenged on anything that he's buggered up (which is pretty much everything)

This is the essence of my argument about the DA. They've become more ANC than the ANC in several areas of influence including council services. They've stopped some corruption from the previous regime, but have introduced some of their own. When confronted with it, their reaction is "well it's different".

Once Zille realised that the DA had a chance of power in the Cape, she quickly turned her focus on the townships and appears to have abandoned her original voter base. Their new policy is to increase housing density and close or lease/sell off public facilities like swimming pools and library property. The nasty side of it is that they don't want you to know and they won't volunteer the information. Getting details of what their plans are in specific neighborhoods is very difficult and the councilors pull you from pillar to post if you try. The DA claims to want open government, but their Cape Town council is the opposite if you aren't in the know.

Let's decide which is best. An autocratic moron (now who's ranting? :rolleyes:) or someone unapproachable, never appears in the news and about whom we know little.
