Hi all, Afrihost Fibre User here (OpenServe). Two days ago my fibre ONT Box LOS (Loss of Signal) red light came on.

I called Afrihost they indicated that an OpenServe Tech would pop by the next day to repair the fault.

OpenServe Findings:
Cannot pick up a signal between my ONT Box and Main box on the street
Fibre cable running below ground in my garden is damaged/cut
OpenServe is unable to detect where
I require a contractor to come out to do one of two things:
1. Determine where the damage is, repair and restore connection
2. Install a new fibre cable from the street box to my ONT box.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?
What would be the best way forward?
Any ideas on the potential cost implications I am looking at?

Are there any other network providers? Might be easier to just get an ISP to install a new ont as that should be free for a new install.

The fiber cable was vandalized on my property and I was with MWEB at the time. MWEB wanted to charge R1800 for the fiber cable replacement. I was looking around and found a number of technicians on Facebook Market that offer fiber repair/maintenance services. I randomly chose one and I ended up paying R1200 (after some bargaining) because I wanted immediate same day service. Fiber cable was professionally replaced from the street to the ONT and speed tests were actually ever so slightly faster than before.

Hello.

Did the technician come through?
Once the tech has indentified the fault they will send out a quotation directly to you and repairs will start as soon as you accept the quote.

There are other providers in the area. I might have to look into this option as a cheaper alternative.

What is the distance from the ONT to the boundary box?
You can buy terminated fibre cables in various lengths and possibly do the replacement yourself.
its approximately 10m. Where could i purchase the cables from to do so?

Technician did come out (OpenServe) they have to send out a contractor to quote on the Fibre Cable Replacement now. Still waiting for them to come through.
