Just when I need the damn ADSL line for university...Telkom decides its time for a fck-up.

They killed the one telephone line. 100% dead. Whatever...I'll use a cell.

On the second line (adsl+fax), they switched something at the DSLAM. The port number is different and its obviously some else's setup because its attempting (&failing) to syncing at 4mbps not the old 384.

SNR Margin (dB): 15.1 8.0
Attenuation (dB): 46.0 29.5
Output Power (dBm): 17.7 10.5
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 1248 92
Rate (Kbps): 1088 32

Yesterday the down SNR was negative.

If one calls the line, then the fax rings...but with a 5 second delay. i.e. it starts 5s late and ends 5s late.

The WA account isn't working because the DSLsecure is blocking the different portnumber. That can be fixed.

However, a prepaid PnP Axxess voucher is also not working anymore. Which kinda puzzles me because the prepaid Axxess local is still kinda working (with the above stats). Having loaded the username & pwd info onto 3 computers I figured that I don't need the voucher anymore. :o Stupid...I know...but now I can't check/follow up on this because I don't have the pwd anymore. I'm 99% sure its not capped yet.

Anybody know how I can retrieve the pppoe password? (xp SP2/3)

Could the axxess intl login troubles be linked to the adsl issues? (Timing is ~ the same)

What does it take to convince Telkom to put the line back onto a working portnum? (A fault has already been logged and they should have been here today).

Any advice/suggestion/theory of what is happening would be appreciated.:)

if its been shifted to a new port, the port is likely not verified/brought into service, hence the 1Mbps connection. Verification can only be done with the order number and tel. no. i.e. you should be able to authenticate and go to telkom ?? wait u said its not authenticating

oh wait.. local is working ..
Yeah. It was syncing @ 4mbps for a while and then fell over. Thats why I'm thinking I'm on some else's portnum setup.

The port num is definitely different...I can see it on the DSLsecure logs.

I wish I could keep the 4mbps enabled port num...but 32 kbps upload + instability on this portnum makes me think I'm better off with a solid 384.:o
