Hi

I have checked on Dark Fiber's website and they have a fiber cable that runs about 500m from my house. Do Dark Fiber offer ftth services or are they wholesale only. How would I check if any of the other guys have fiber nearby. I have looked at alot of the usual suspects, Telkom ect but maybe somebody has run a fiber cable past us and does not "yet" provide the service. It would be nice to see how many or lack of fiber cables in our area. Thanks

Dark fibre purely supply the fibre.

You will need an ISP that provides services on the fibre.

It is actually Dark Fibre Africa (the company) as opposed to Dark Fibre (unlit physical cable). Any company can have Dark Fibre, Vodacom, MTN, Telkom, Dark Fibre Africa, Frogfoot. There is just one company called Dark Fibre Africa.

We've had a DFA cable go by for years. I don't know if it's for their future use or just for business, but they aren't marketing to us or anyone.

That of course is the irony. The fact that a DFA route (or anyone else's for that matter) goes right past your place does not mean it is now possible to tap into the cable and get service.

An ISP has to purchase/ lease capacity on the fibre, then deploy an access node and the lay an access fibre network or use some of the fibre in that duct to distribute fibre to the business and homes in the area.

DFA is primarily a supplier of "dark fibre" to licensed operators and ISPs.

This, only recently has SEACOM started offering fibre direct through DFA. The last mile is sub-contracted to MCT for installation. Will post pics when my home one gets installed in December

TLDR you need an ISP like Cybersmart/Lightspeed, WA etc. It will cost +- R10 000 p/m to make it feasible for them so either you pay the R10 000 yourself (if you have a business) or you must get residents around you to also sign up for an accumulative R10 000. The installation is R3000 once or free if you take out a 24 month contract.

BS. They will tell you R10 000 but in reality it's a lot lot more. With me they went from R10 000 to R60 000.

Yep, they come up with a number at your location, the number becomes a moving target though (changes depending on the consultant you are speaking too).

What a crock of shiate, don't trust this useless company. They can stick their Lightspeed where the sun don't shine. Bunch of ****ers.

Ag ffs just want fibre. Knew it sounded too good to be true.

Lol, same hey. I also wanted it badly. Already got the R10 000 from my neighbours but they lied. Even had a call from upper management about it. Told him I was not interested in his excuses.
