Still using a Garmin 55. I bought a new one as I was driving to CT two days after I took my old one in when it stopped working, and couldn't wait for them to do a diagnostic on the device.
 
Would be nice if they can extend the voice commands , similar to the Virb360 :

Start Recording - Starts recording video in the current video mode.
Stop Recording - Stops recording video.
Remember That - Places a bookmark in the video. This command allows you to mark key moments in the video as they occur so you can find them easily while editing the video.

does anyone know if Dashcams can be used in a court in ZA? For example I know from some complex owners that CCTV or criminals breaking in was dismissed in court as they could not biometrically place the person in the CCTV (although quite clear) at the scene from a thumb print, blood, hair, etc.

I'm also wondering if the person who rides into you could claim they had not given the right to be filmed etc. Wonder what laws exist about it.

Anyone with a camera can take a picture of another person without their permission if they are in a public space. There's an exception if the scene contains children. Then you would need the permission of their guardian.

Not sure of a conviction based on footage, but it will help. As for filming your surroundings, why not. It's not that you're targeting anyone in particular.

Ah ok cool - so public space is the key? and i imagine children are always a sensitive subject. Need to be extra careful there.

May also help if the person claims their car did not do what you said it did I guess.
 
I would like to get one on my next car.

I hit a Mercedes S600 a few years ago that tried to cut across a traffic circle I was already in and he thought I would exit but my indicator was showing I was still in the circle.

Traffic police said I was right, driving school people i know said I was right.

It goes to court between our insurance companies and my insurance company lost the case... :X3::mad:
I'm wondering if some daschcam footage wouldn't of helped them although their lawyers must have been super incompetent...

Get one. Can't do any harm. I got a cheap Xiaomi one, but it works well.
