Hi guys,

Where do I find pricing on standalone data bundles or out of bundle data prices on Telkom Fiber?
I cannot find any pricing on the Telkom website... or am I just blind?

Can I use a Telkom ADSL data account on Telkom Fiber?

Thanks

Hey,

I can only find this

http://www.telkommobile.co.za/smart-home-ftth-10mbps.html

This is probably not what you are looking for.

I would suggest giving them a call if you want more details.

I tried Google but I didn't find a website that specifies individual standalone data prices.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to utilize fibre for an ADSL account. Fibre would be more than capable to handle it. The question is if Telkom would allow it.

Maybe Telkom only allow ADSL and VDSL data accounts to utilize the copper network. And a fibre data accounts would then only be suitable for the fibre network. I'm not the expert so I'm guessing here.

The best would be to find out from Telkom. I would also like to know what the limitations and possibilities are in this case.

You can use any xDSL account with telkom fiber. So if you get a 10mb uncapped, the fiber line will be bottle-necked to 10mb.

You should be able to use any ISP due to them all paying Telkom for last mile IPC.
I know Webafrica offers data on Telkom fiber lines, just call up ISPs and ask them if you aren't sure. (Except in the case of Telkom, calling is near suicide).

Thanks for all the responses guys

Telkom Fibre is similar to ADSL except that the physical line uses an optical fibre technology (which is a lot more reliable than ADSL). It still connects to the same exchange.

Therefor the data portion you can get from any ISP that sell ADSL data bundles.
If you are looking for Telkom ISP data bundles then this is the place to look http://www.telkom.co.za/sites/athome/productsandservices/internetandbroadband/dataonlypackages/

Hi is this 100% true as nobody at Vox would give me the answer and said might or might not work.

Yes. However if you want to buy a "standalone" Telkom fibre line (with no data), you have to do it through one of the ISPs (I believe only WebAfrica are doing this - you have to pay a R100 monthly fee for this).

Strangely you can't do this through Telkom themselves.

I emailed webafrica yesterday, seems like they dont offer standalone telkom fibre at moment...

they replied "I'm not to sure whether you can have a standalone fibre line with us, as you have to order it with one of our recommended data packages."

so I guess have to be Line+Data together.
I will check on ISPAfrika later to find out if they provide telkom standalone fibre line rental.

Try IspAfrika. The base offer sis 10GB data with any line speed - perfect if you want to use your preferred data bundle from a different ISP

What's interesting is that the cost you pay per GB for a "Fibre data account" from an ISP is more expensive than an "ADSL data account", but you can authenticate via your router and use the "ADSL data account" fine on a Fibre line. So they just ripping you off when you take a fibre package. They give you a new data account which costs X and dont let you bundle your existing ADSL one, even though you can use your existing ADSL account.
