Datsun Go! Thoughts

Why do you take pics of random sh*t cars and post them in threads?

We see them everyday... they're are everywhere.

You make it sound like I have a habit of taking pics of **** cars & posting them here. Which is certainly not the case.

I am trying to recall the significance of this pic taken. It possibly could be to the Go+ running gag in this thread a couple of pages back.

Tata tried the 'FLASH' treatment a while ago, slapping a few 'extra cosmetic add-ons' like alloy rims, air-conditioning, Bluetooth radio with USB, leather upholstery & steering wheel, and gaudy 'FLASH' decals on their base model Indica B-Line - that flopped like a lead balloon at a selling price of R 124,995, as buyers went ga-ga over the Renault Kwid instead, with had a multi-function infotainment system included as standard, also selling at a similar price-point.

Now we have Datsun gilding their miserable little econobox turd, the GO, also with a few tacky 'FLASH' graphics glued to the body, bonnet and roof, Bluetooth radio with USB, a silver exhaust finisher, plastic hub-caps and some mud-flaps slapped onto it, which is just under R 11,000 more expensive than the TATA (which had more 'extras') was.

This will also go under & sink, just like the RMS Titanic did in April 1912, as its sibling, the Kwid, is still more popular at the moment.

MARCH 2018 Sales figures:

Renault Kwid – 856
Datsun GO – 610

Tata is not the best but it is ahead of the Datsun in terms of build quality, thebonlybthingnitbwas such a flop is because Tata thinks cars are supposed to sell themselves without them lifting a finger.

Datsun Go Facelift Announced

Datsun has introduced a facelift of its Go and 7-seater Go+ budget cars. There are several changes, here's what the update entails.

Having just been launched in Indonesia, the 2018 Datsun Go and Go+ is expected to make landfall in South Africa before the end of the year. The changes are significant, with a smarter-looking exterior comprising new-look grille, tweaked headlights, sportier bumper with integrated daytime-running lights, side mirrors with built-in indicators and a revised rear bumper.

As far as cabin updates are concerned, the central console and air vents are new and a 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been added. Datsun claims that by optimising the backrest shape, seating comfort has been improved.

Datsun says it has rejigged the Go's suspension and fitted more insulation to improve on-road refinement. In terms of engine options, the Indonesian market has gained a CVT option mated to its 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol motor. The powerplant produces peak outputs of 50 kW and 104 Nm.

Strangely, there's no mention of any upgrades to the safety systems of the vehicle, which is odd considering its mechanically-similar cousin, the Renault Kwid, will see anti-lock brakes introduced in the near future. We'll update the story as more information comes to light.

So an infotainment system is better than being able to stop safely? Or proper crumble zones?

Amusing how people worry about that now, yet 10 years ago most people drove around with no abs, no airbags, no esc etc. without a care in the world.

Yeah people also died a lot more.

You might find that people also die in very safe cars more than they should because people are plain reckless, people will still overtake you with less than 200m to go to the stop sign or red robot and slam on their ABS brakes, for what?

You will quickly learn the value of ABS brakes when some moron skips a red light right in front of you and you have to do an emergency stop. Lots of reckless drivers on the road, any safety tech that can help you is worth it.

I think we would be very surprised if we were to get a number of cars without ABS still on the roads, plenty, Golfs, Tazzes and Corsas without those on the road, i still drive one without ABS and I am not having sleepless nights about failing to stop. I am more worried about some idiot behind me in his high powered car with ABS texting on his phone instead of keeping their eyes on the road.

Believe me I fully understand that and I appreciate the value of ABS, it is a slightly different point I am making, that of the reckless drivers you are talking about.

But as with anything, people are morons, just now they've got a marginally better chance of surviving.

Ten years ago? Are you high? My megane is 10 years old. 6 airbags, abs, ebd, 5 EuroNCAP stars. And even then it was a mid to low range vehicle, not high end by any means.

Were you under a rock or still in school?

especially in SA still no law against selling cars without ABS to people, or airbags or crumple zones
and no cash for clunkers scheme like in the UK or the US, so people will hold on to their old cars for as long as possible,
I mean have you seen some of the minbus taxis that drive sideways? I think JHB is famous for them.

point being, yes those things save lives, but being a moron in a high powered BMW with umpteen airbags will still kill you.
also not wearing a seatbelt because its not cool, will kill you just as easily

its all about your attitude on the road, and how you minimize your risk as much as possible when driving,
nobody can say driving is not a risk, we all aware of that fact.

so you drive a Datsun go, or a tazz for that matter, do you wear your seatbelt?
do you keep proper following distance?
do you put your lights on when conditions necessitate it?
do you drink 20 cases of beer before climbing behind the wheel?
ect ect....

what kills people is not if you drive a BMW with 20 different kind of airbags and an entire alphabet soup of driver aids,

its HOW you drive, as you can still die in a BMW or a S class if your an Idi0t,

were as even in a Cr@p car like a Datsun Go or a Tazz, if you drive sensibly, and not try to emulate Michael shumacher
good chance youll survive, even without all the airbags and expensive toys you "require".

problem is we live in a increasingly "nanny" Society, if you drive like an idiot in a Datsun GO
and then die horribly, whos fault is that? yours for driving like a buffoon.

same story with a BMW/Audi Driver, if you drive like arton senna on the roads with your "invincible" BMW/Audi with all the bells and whistles,
youll die in exactly the same fashion, maybe even worse....

I did say most people, not the 10% with a fancy green marble rock

/sarcasm and 10 years ago a megane was in the same class as an entry level car

Good post, a rep is well deserved.

Yes but you can be the best driver in the world. But Bob isn't, Bob has had twenty beers and skips the red robot, he drove a BMW and hits your Datsun Go, Bob's airbags deploy, his crumble zones restrict the damage from going into the cabin, his ABS slowed him down enough for his 5 star rating to kick in, you're in your Go which has none of that and even though Bob only hits you at 64km/h you're lying in hospital mostly dying or dead, while Bob isn't.
I'd say be like Bob, but yeah don't.
