Datsun Go! Thoughts

The video confirms the big car always wins in the physics war as mentioned in the article I posted. This is why it is crucial that small cars have the highest possible safety rating.

The Datsun Go does not have the required safety to give most people on this thread the confidence to drive one.

the same kind of accident will happen if the smart car was to hit a bakkie, or a truck

expensive has nothing to do with safety, as I said above,
why are you trying to overtake if you driving a smart car? and can you see clearly?

point Im trying desperately to make is toys like ABS and airbags dont make a car safer one little bit....

Well ABS does, airbags greatly increase your survival of said accident.
If you've never had to hit brakes due to something out of your control and felt the sweet relief of the foot pedal massage to let you know you'll probably be okay. I've only had ABS for the last 15 years and I don't abuse it, but the few times I've needed it, it's been there for me. In another car I'd probably have hit whatever was in front of me.

Neither ABS or airbags are toys. It's safety features, something that can save your life in an accident happening at normal speeds (IE not trying to set land speed records), the kind of accidents that happens daily. I have been driving cars equipped with ABS for years without it activating once, a few months ago I needed to brake for an irresponsible moron, stopped just in time. Without ABS that would have been a low speed accident.

Im not denying ABS and Airbags save lives, Really Im not against this sort of technology,
with one important caveat

with the right training and Attitude to road safety, even somebody driving a CR@p car like a citi golf or tazz or even a datsun go can survive (or avoid) said accident.
so again, yes if your in an accident, Id much rather be in a Expensive car, but Id also much rather be in a cheap cr@p car driven safely.

its all about HOW you Drive?
as airbags and ABS and ESC wont protect you from being a idiot, no matter how much you think they will.

I mean did you know all these gadgets, can actually cause a accident,
when I was younger and with my driving instructor, he taught me one lesson that stuck with me till this day,
in a cheap cr@p car, you easily feel your on the edge of performance, you wont push further as you have plenty of warning from the car,

so you can hear the tires barely hanging on, you feel the wheel going very light, you get a lot of sensation, dont push harder as you wont make it.
I mean its so obvious you need to be blind to miss it.

in a big expensive car, the opposite is true, you so isolated from the road, you got so much safety (supposedly)
that you tend to drive faster then you ought to, and feel more confident, to drive faster then you normally would,
and thats when the accidents happen, as when technology fails, it fails spectacularly, and you end up in a Ditch.

so its a matter of averages, do you trust technology and "safety" more than your own ability?

good question to all the BMW drivers out there,
especially after watching this video:

Most peoples ability is a step up from being asleep at the wheel, if you've been driving along time you've gone into a sort of muscle memory mode where your brain is off and you just drive. The difference is that the tech is there to help you when something comes along you aren't prepared for.

exactly my point driving an expensive car teaches you, driving a cheap car with no ABS teaches you to open your eyes and think a little bit.

what Ive often wondered, is if you migrate to a bigger car with all the toys and gadgets, will your driving ability in a cheap car come with you?
or will you revert to "BMW" mode?

No you adapt to the car you in, every car is different. Different braking characteristics, weight distribution, roll rate etc... I've driven cars with everything and ones that basically should only be driven away from any other vehicle as it's safety features were a bumper.
The ABS has been a great help, especially when I've had a guy cut me off on the highway, or a pedestrian who wasn't looking and just crossed the road from behind a car.

eg2505, if you are sitting perfectly still at a red traffic light, all legal like, and some speeding ahole coming in the opposite direction losses control of his vehicle and goes over the intersection and smashed into you, all in mere seconds, how is your driving safely going to prevent said accident?

Dude, where did the big bad BMW touch you?

its a german car, and they all drive like a****holes, ive never seen one driven responsibly in my life.

none of the indicate, none of them keep correct following distance, and none of them keep to the speed limit.

one day ill drive one, and try to figure out why you are compelled to drive like a clot when you drive such an expensive car.

as id think the opposite is true, such an expensive car should be driven like its made of eggshells,
as unlike a datsun go, looking at it wrongly, diminishes its value.

:crylaugh: He will magically move out of the way.

fair enough, but when everything is all over, and you climb out of your car, (assuming you survive)

whos fault is that? his? for driving like a m0ron, and he should pay handsomely for his mistake.
so hopefully another BMW moron learns he cant bend the laws of physics,

yes driving ability wont save me, but driving ability wont save me if a meteor decides to crater into my car either.

point is, accidents happen, happen all the time, only thing we can do is reduce our chances to be in one,
yes ABS and toys help a lot, not doubting that, but training and common sense also help, even if you not as fortunate to drive a expensive car.
