Datsun Go! Thoughts

Yes but you can be the best driver in the world. But Bob isn't, Bob has had twenty beers and skips the red robot, he drove a BMW and hits your Datsun Go, Bob's airbags deploy, his crumble zones restrict the damage from going into the cabin, his ABS slowed him down enough for his 5 star rating to kick in, you're in your Go which has none of that and even though Bob only hits you at 64km/h you're lying in hospital mostly dying or dead, while Bob isn't.
I'd say be like Bob, but don't act like a **** as Bob is doing.

FTFY

And just like that, you end the debate. If only this oke bought a good second hand car instead of a Go, he might still be alive today.

And this test is only at 64km/h to simulate frontal crash of equivalent car. With two cars on N2, you are looking at over 200km/h and the bigger car always wins.

This is why I drive a sedan and never our Atos on the open road. Love the Atos for in town driving but prefer my Honda for piece of mind on long trips.

That Go+ does much better than I expected, given how bad the Go did, with it's wishy washy A pillar...

I'd say be like Bob, but yeah don't.

Please NO, Is this what these whole argument is all about? don't be like Bob, Bob is irresponsible, let us behave in a manner that even the poorest motorist who does not have the fancy safety features can still have a chance on our roads.

Actually no, read it again carefully...

I read it multiple times, but Ok then, as long as it's not advocating for people to be like Bob I am happy.

I'd say be like Bob, but yeah don't.

See I said I'd say be like Bob, but yeah don't... That implies that you don't be like Bob, unless I used a double negative somewhere which then implies be like Bob??

Good post, a rep is well deserved.

thanks,

my point being, not everybody can afford to drive a expensive car, and yes their will always be skedonks on the road,
you need to remember that whatever you drive, being a datsun go, or a BMW with 20 different airbags,

accidents happen, its how you minimized your OWN risk,
so you drive a datsun go, was everybody wearing their seatbelts? all 5? did you check?
were you speeding? were you with your lights on? were all of them working properly? before a long journey did you check?
were your tires worn? were your brakes/Servicing carried out in time? did oom baba do it? or datsun themselves?

I mean yes, there are thousands of different things that can happen, but did YOU do everything possible to Minimize your own risk?

I personally cant stand people that swear by driving a Expensive car with upteen airbags and DSC and toys,
if you drive like a clot, youll die in a fancy car exactly he same as the poor oke driving a tazz.
(I can personally testify to this, we al Im sure can)

its all about your attitude to driving, that makes all the difference,
as driving a BMW, with your BMW attitude, will kill you exactly the same as driving a Citi golf or datsun GO,
with a poor attitude, overtaking where you cant clearly see, dangerous following distance ect...

if you know you drive a tazz, you've got 0 airbags and no ABS, drive carefully, so you keep good following distance,
especially in the rain, you service your car in time, buy the best parts you can afford, and check your tires tread regularly enough,
it will help you avoid the BMW with an owner driving like a typical BMW owner does.

TLDR: its all down to your attitude, do you drive sensibly? or like a typical BMW driver?, your car lack of or abundance of safety has nothing to do with if you survive or not.

No worries, i'll blame it on my poor English comprehension.

Refer to a few posts up where a Datsun Go vs a Hyundai. You cannot control when you are in an accident, doesn't matter how good of a driver you are.

That go+ didn't do to bad there. On the big vs small cars, while mostly true, small modern cars can be just as safe. Forward to 3 minutes.

fair enough, but again being a good driver has nothing to do with it,
its if you have a BMW attitude to driving or not? (even if you dont drive a BMW).

point being, you aware of how your car will react in a given situation, keep that in mind,
when you set off on a long journey in your datsun go or citi golf or Tazz

as if you know you need to stop in time, and dont have ABS brakes, practice cadence braking on a quiet parking lot,
AND dont do silly things you know you cant handle safely..... IE attitude, and dont overtake on a blind rise.

as I dont deny having ABS is a lifesaver, but what Im saying is how do you USE it?

Have you had 20 beers and climbed behind the wheel with your BMW attitude, of get out of my way Im a BMW?
and then try to stop on a wet road following too closely to the other car.
or jumped a red light when the other driver didnt see you clearly crossing an intersection?

attitude and safety of how you drive has a bigger effect on safety then any skill you might have.

that is why the finnish driving test is so hard, can takes so long,
and why Finnish Racing drivers even civilians are so safe.

as they dont throw people keys to BMW's and say have fun, or let them loose on the road
after they have proved they can safely drive at night, and safely control a skid.

and some of it takes place on the weekends, where they
put people in Cr@ppy underpowerd (NON ABS) cars and let them race each other,
where they can learn how to drive safely on difficult roads in Cr@p cars,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folkrace

so when they do eventually get a Driving licence, they dont all try to kill each other,

most people in SA have what? a K53?
how useful is that with today's roads? and today's cars? about as much as a paper umbrella in a downpour.

TLDR: attitude and training are bigger factors that prevent accidents

The video confirms the big car always wins in the physics war as mentioned in the article I posted. This is why it is crucial that small cars have the highest possible safety rating.

The Datsun Go does not have the required safety to give most people on this thread the confidence to drive one.
