DC Suicide Squad

I watched it this this past weekend.
I thought it was good.
Hollywood critics are too critical nowdays

I was disappointed.

But I think it is just the nature of the movie to be so disjointed if you don't have any real character development. Too many back stories to tell.

Harley Quinn needed to have a movie all by herself. Too much stuff there to not explore.

Deadshot's backstory was easy enough and Will Smith did pull him off. He also had more screen time than the others though.

Watched it tonight at IMAX. Loved it. Maybe it helped to go in with low expectations. I kept expecting to be jolted from scene to scene or to be confused at unreasonable twists of the story. But it never came. It flowed really well and was just an all round fun movie.
I'm starting to wonder after this if there really is a critics conspiracy.

Nah, I think the film deserves its critical reception.

- Way too much attention on Will Smith. They weren't even prepared to have him wear his mask for more than a few seconds.
- Enchantress sucked.
- Character development is all over the place.
- The Joker seriously messed up his vibe with some cringeworthy moments.
- That one Amanda Waller scene. Wtf. Totally out of character and retarded.
- A generally poor plot.

I liked it. One thing that annoyed me was the overabundance of licensed songs in the movie.

6/10

Saw it on Imax, wasn't as disappointed as I was by Superman V Batman. Felt the story just needed some work to seem a bit less disjointed.

Suicide Squad steals Guardians of the Galaxy's box office crown, makes $135 million

Suicide Squad steals Guardians of the Galaxy's box office crown, makes $135 million in opening weekend!

Suicide Squad's opening weekend box office proves that despite a rough ride in production and a skewering from critics, large numbers turned out to see it. Audiences coughed up $135 million in the US and an additional $132 million outside of North America. That's a global takehome of $267 million.

Its US takings broke the $94 million August box office record previously set by Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, and that worldwide $267 million haul has outdone the surprising success of Deadpool which netted $264.7 million in its first weekend. Not bad considering the film had a steep 41% takings drop between Friday and Saturday.

All in all, these are promising numbers for a movie plagued by early production pitfalls and some last-minute attempts to tweak its tone. It's rumored that the David Ayer-directed film cost $175 million to produce, and another hundred million or so more to market. If those numbers are even in the right ballpark, that means there's a way to go until the film starts to generate a sizeable profit but the signs are encouraging...
