DCS World. A serious combat flight sim

is there a "Master Arm button" that im missing?

i havent got Skype as my office is near family room, so i can very seldom chat which, i realize, is a massive problem for a flight sim :(

Are you getting an audible tone before you try an fire the missile?

As for skype, we use it just to see whos around or available for a flight.

Ingame we use teamspeak to communicate.
Just get a cheap headset with a mike and the family wont be disturbed, apart from the occasional loud 'golygosh'expletive that may leave your mouth, as it does with us :D

Ok have an idea but before i post let me try it tonight.

Yes a definite tone on lock and some hot chick even says "Launch Authorized"
I cant shoot(with lock) right up to pass so the distance limitations of both IR AA systems are not the issue.

...some hot chick even says "Launch Authorized"

This reminds me of a thing that happened the other night. We were playing a user-made mission and it had all these really well done voice over bits and the one was this AWACS chick belting out info. I say to Sneeky "yussus, I wonder what the oke had to do to get her to do that voice stuff?" He replies "I'd hit it."

:D

Dont be so sure, its normally the hot phone voices and in real life they UGLY:cry:
No man the game runs like silk just i used Fraps which seems to make it lag, and had to edit the bejesus out of it to get it down from 380M.
I run on 1600x1200 resolution all high and no probs.

My stick is a bit nervous though so i need to fine tune it.

Fraps, in the video options section set to record at half size unless you want to make 720 or 1080p video for Utoob.
I find 60fps is best for me, if you reduce the number to 30 it will also have a big impact on file size, may cause a stutter or 2.
I record at full and 60fps, then render at 720p at 30fps, but for normal clips and stuff will record at half size.

Alternatively, give Bandicam a try, a lot lighter than fraps when it comes to file size, and you have lots of record options.
Free version allows 10min per recording.

What are you compressing/editing with?

Flanders you punk, what did that dude tune you you must changed your call sign to when you dropped some hardware on the freindlies?

Change callsign to "I can't see for ****" or something along those lines hahaa

Ok, got him, but some funny stuff for sure.

Firstly the training missions are not loading for some reason, same for you shadow?

Just loaded the default dogfight quick mission and have spent about half hours trying to configure keys and stuff while crashing and burning in spectacular fashion.

There seems to be some key assignment conflict or something.
I have A-10 hotas, cleared out as many of the conflicts in the options as I could find, but still a strange behavior present.
I have missile launch (space) mapped to my pickle button on the hotas joystick. Nothing else seems to be mapped there, yet it opts as a change weapon button. This is however mapped to my tms on the hotas.
Will look into this a bit further.

A short clip to illustrate the point.
After some turn and burn efforts I got behind him. You will see when I get LA and tone, I try fire and it switches to cannon and fires, some quick button pushing (and a prayer) and the weps went back to A/A and the missile left the rail.

Will dig a bit more, there must be some innocuous stupid reason for this.
Welcome to flightsimming 101 :D

Also, could not map zoom like I do in A-10 or P-51 in the pit for some reason.

djshadowfax, try this, press and HOLD your joystick assigned button for missiles (space).
Just gave it a whirl now. Missile seems to take some time to come off the rail, a second or 2. A quick depress did not work, but holding it for a second or so it launched.

That JTAC was a paranoid little twirp! All AK-47 infantry went down in that hail of 30mm. He acted as though I'd just dropped a nuke on our dudes. :p

Bwahaha, no mention of my blue on blue that requires a tribunal just yet, i think i'm going to jail lol, but will plead innocence and get a Marikana lawyer like Mpofu to represent me :D

Uh, Ferret 2-1, confirm last - attack the convoy? Negative, pig 1-1! Repeat, negative!! ESCORT...ESCORT THE CONVOY!"

Escorts , are they hot? :D

I think this is your huckleberry djshadowfax

Once you lined him up, have tone and LA, you have to press and 'hold' the assigned button (pickle) till the missile comes off the rail, have to keep it lined up though till it comes off, takes a sec or so.

I had also incorrectly assinged a trigger button for the cannon, seems 'space' fires everything, and the button I assigned for cannon just switches the wep to cannon causing the conflict.

Sweet vid, yes thanks for all the help i got it now. I practiced on a friendly and got crapped out for "Fratricide" but lining up on the non-evading friendly and holding fire did the trick.

I see how smoothly you turn and realized i was jumping up down getting erratic lock on. Im going to have to look at getting a new stick soonish, my Logitech Force 3D Pro has seen better days.

I need to try and fine tune it as i get a flutter on the rudder so im guessing set dead zone?

:was on your server now but all A-10:

Awesome, glad it helped out. :)

Before you spend dollars on new kit though have you tuned the curves?

If not read on;
For all your 'axis curves', you need to fine tune them a little in the options, otherwise it's pretty difficult to fight on a linear pattern as the sim dishes up by default.

This takes less than a minute to do btw.

So load the game, goto options, then select the su25t (or whatever module you are flying, a10/su25/etc)
On the right white dropdown box, click, and select axis commands.
That brings up all the possible settings you can fine tune using a joystick. (pitch, roll, yaw, rudder, etc)

Now, for example, select pitch and click on the relevant assigned area for your controller (just once), then click axis tune at the bottom of the screen.

By default you will see a straight line, you need to smoothe this out a bit to make flight control a lot more manageable.
I'm sure the other dudes will agree.
Set 'curvature' option to about 30 as a start! (see image below, thats what I fly at for pitch and roll axis settings, but fit it to whatever suites you and your hardware best inflight)

do the same for pitch as you do for roll (x/y axis) You need to keep these 2 the same, or else you will get yourself in a knot of note.
I have a 30 curvature setting, no deadzone.
Deadzones are useful only if your controller stutters a little at a center point of any axis, or you are prone to push the controller a bit inadvertently (see my rudder settings)

Do similar for rudder. I have a 4 value deadzone set for rudder (just cause i rest my feet on them occasionally), and about a 15 curvature works for me.

thx that feels much better. Smoother.
I was in your server but only A-10's available.
Is it me or is there no G effect enabled. Black/red out ect and damage to aircraft surface. I might still have it on "game" not "simulation" though will check.

G effect is certainly in the P-51 module.

Its there in the A-10 and other as well as if you pull to many your wings will abandon you :D
Not many black/red outs I expect as a result of g-suits maybe?

I wasn't flying last night, so maybe it was Flanders?

Yo bru i cant seem to find key to freelook with mouse(when im not using freetrack) so i can look at tv unit and zoom in on cockpit panels. Loving autopilot options helps with extra workload in the air.

VERY different to flying a spit where all you worry about are radiators, fuel and bandits.
