I finally got a photo of the error u-01_HWM please see the image below. I checked on my other decoder Explora 2 and it gets the exact same error so I think this is a firmware (software error as two different decoders Explora 1 and Explora 2 have the same error, I thought it could be that the hard drive was full but the Explora 2 the hard drive is empty. I don't know about going to DSTV with this error as just my luck it will not give the error straight away.

Could very well just be bad hard drives, the chances are astronomical ( unless both were dropped at somepoint) either way , may this isn’t your weekend for lotto

Thanks to both Ivans. I also suspected HDD or firmware but it's a long shot call of course.

You have little choice as it's unlikely you'll find someone with enough knowledge via phone anyway. You could try force your way to a manager and push them to find an expert, but Randburg service centre is a far better bet.

Explora 1 is old now (I've also got a couple of them). Worst that can happen is you upgrade?

Being on both decoders can also be a clue - some new software mess-up perhaps, in which case the centre should know about it by now.

As far as I know, the unit won’t install a corrupted updated ( ota) it has to pass a checksum , and if the update the pushing is causing drive issues, they going to have a baaaad time

Hi thanks for all the responses,I also think that is highly unlikely that both decoders are faulty at the same time with the same fault that is why I am thinking that possibly some bug in the software that was patched but has now caused another problem both decoders work fine otherwise the explora 2 is hardly used just in standby most of the time. I will give it another week to see what happens then if there is still a problem I will properly have to take the two decoders to exchange as I have insurance on them.q

Sounds good.

One other consideration, if you do take them in - if they end up replaced, modern Exploras don't use RF connections so if your install relies on that at all it will need adjustment.

@Ivan Leon @BouncyNinja

BTW guys, here's a good resource worth sharing that @Geoff.D and I got our hands on a few years back;

Having been away from the satellite based deciders for some time ( been using streama) , one gets to appreciate what a matured product the satellite based stuff is, from dmx , to browsing and setting reminders , all stuff that’s still wholly missing from the internet based units, that said, say what you will, picture quality is still better on the satellite base

Had a flashback to when the pace 2p came out, and somehow I discovered a button bashing session that brought up a file explorer on the unit , was fun times 🤣

Been getting same recently on my main Ultra. About 3 times of the past month or so. Always while in Catchup somewhere. Have not checked the other one

Uh, oh... @craigcul then change of advice - may be better to hope to ride it out, unless you don't mind losing a good classic and want to toss that coin..

Hi Brian yes I like the older devices the Explora 1 has more recording time than the other decoders and it still has a display worth keeping, the past week it has been fine no problems maybe DSTV has had problems reported and has changed something and, I see the last post Luke also had the same problem on the ultra decoder. So I will wait and see if it is total solved I don’t actually want to get the newer devices another reason is the new decoder have no RF in and out so setup to new decoder could be messy.

Ja, forgot about the incoming, was only thinking about distribution. Had separate cables for so long now, forgot there was something like a HB cable :)

I'm also rusty... too rusty, been a long time :- )

Nice to see a few posts where no one is crying about DSTV and it's admittedly poor service.

Well, we could ruin the moment and me tell you about a friend of mine who's account is so badly messed up that it now gets Premium for free :love: ... but let's rather let sleeping dogs lie this time
