I'm looking for a new Android phone that's not particularly expensive (hopefully something < 3.5k). Currently, the choices seem to be:
  • Moto G
  • Galaxy S3 Mini
  • LG L7 II
  • Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos
  • Sony Xperia SP
  • Huawei Ascend P2

There are a couple of other options for a bit more (e.g. S3, Huawei P6) and I know there's an LG L70 and L90 around soon too. Anybody have any thoughts on any of the above? I'm not that keen on the first two because I do use my phone's camera quite a bit. I'm not quite sure how Huawei phones are for software updates, parts availability etc. Are there any other obvious alternatives that I've missed?

Best I can advise is that you compare the phones on gsmarena. See what you like best and then look for their reviews relating to the cameras

If the phone is at least dual core, 1GB RAM and has a notification light, I will take it.

I'd say the P6 or the P2. The LG L7 II is good too. Moto G is the best value for money

I've seen an Xperia V for sale at R2500 on another classified forum. I think it's a good deal. PM if you want the details.
PS , no affiliation.

A mate of mine had a V... Had issues and Vodacom replaced it with an S4 mini... Much happier now

I've got a V and had problems.
What issues did he have?

Moto G is clearly the best - it's not even close. But do any South African networks offer it? I was under the impression that none of them do.

I think it's one of the few (only) phones Amazon will ship to SA. 8GB version was listed for $179 last I saw. Not sure what that works out to with shipping + VAT.
