Deciding on a new gaming mouse

Well I am going to upgrade from my R 30 canyon mouse. Now I have a few questions. Say my sens is 1.3 and my dpi is 1000. Now I change my dpi to 2000, how much faster will the speed be? Will it be the same speed as 2 sens with 1000 dpi or will it feel like 20 sens with 1000 dpi?

Also deciding on a mouse to buy and where to buy it. I live in Centurion. I want to know is there good places where to buy mouses that don't rip people off? The only place with relatively good mouses is PC gamer world in Centurion Mall but I don't trust buying PC games from them. It at least has razers and logitechs. Or am I searching in the wrong place?

Now deciding on a mouse. What is your views on Razers vs Logitechs? I plan on spending R600 - R800 maybe lower maybe higher. Should I go logitech or razer? I hear MX 518 is a good mouse but where do you buy it and is it worth it?

Lastly I heard some mouses are utterly useless without a good gaming mouse pad? Can anyone confirm this? I don't want to pay R 300 just for a mouse pad otherwise it is just as well I buy a wireless incredible corruption mouse?

Well I just bought a Zboard Reaper Edge Laser mouse. It goes up to 3200dpi and is extremly comfortable. It looks flippin' awesome too. A shiny carbon fibre with Red LED's that light up when you change DPI and the logo shines red.

It's extremly fast even on only 1200dpi and acurate. The software that comes with it is awesome, you can even set up your own Macro with it to auto click things for you while you're doing something else.

R501 for this awesome mouse isn't bad.

The mx518 is good, but old. Logitech g5 is the upgrade of it and is my recommendation.
 
The G5 is nice, but when choosing a mouse it's important to think of how you hold it. Most gaming mouses are molded to fit a hand (to make use of the a "palm" grip), but some people use a "claw" grip (don't know how else to explain it, they use their fingertips to click) so it's an important factor when choosing a mouse.

Personally, I would suggest the G5 if you use the palm grip and a razer deathadder if you use the claw grip.
 
Ok thank you guys, Logitech G5 then. I read more up about it and seems like a good mouse. However how large is it? I have relatively large hands. Now I'm off to find a place to buy it :)

Good choice ;)

It is a fair size, it should work fine even with large hands.

Its probably the most comfortable mouse I have used.
 
I've got quite big hands myself and it felt comfortable when I tested my mates out.
 
What about the Logitech G9, or the MS Sidewider gaming mouse?
hmm, seems like the G5 is the best bang for your buck...
 
The G9 looks pretty cool, dunno how it would do with big hands though, never tried one.
 
One thing I recommend is to buy the mouse that fits the best in your hand. Buy the one that feels best not the one with the most features.

In most cases a nice gaming mouse will give you 2000dpi and a way to change dpi settings on the fly.
 
i own the cyber sniper stinger... it cost me R449 from matrix hardware. has up to 3200dpi. the scroll wheel tilts so you get a extra 2 buttons to program... the mouse is fully programable on 3 settings.. you can customise it for media playback or internet browsing or for what ever else you feel like... check it out
 
Does the G5 come with profiles? What I mean is can I set it so that my sens and dpi remain the same for all games??
 
seriously consider the stinger! feels great, looks great and performes great!!!
 
I can't believe I didn't look at the cyber snipa. It has much more than the G5 and costs less...thxs, I am getting my cyber snipa tommorrow :D

You seriously can't compare cyba snipa to logitech, they in to different leagues if you ask me. It costs less for a reason :rolleyes:
