Degrading Telkom LTE Uncapped speeds

When I was on Afrihost mobile via MTN same thing happened. Not as extreme but it was in excess of 25mbps and eventually dropped to about 2mbps.

I have Telkom 4G as a backup at home. Again it only averages around 2mbps. I'd noticed it was a lot faster when it was new.

Vodacom 4G on my phone, same thing. I distinctly remember showing off a speedtest result to colleagues in excess of 25mbps. I haven't seen double figures in ages now.

Currently my main connection is Neotel 4mbps fixed LTE. I haven't had a better connection, so stable and faster latency than DSL. At least for the while I've had it :)

What I dont get is - only 17 on my tower out 150 spots. So imagine all spots filled!

The tower I connect to has 37 spots left on the final tier but luckily I'm on prepaid. Being stuck with this for 24 months would be a nightmare...
 
Is it possible to cancel the service without penalties if it becomes unusable?
 
Yeah the sad news is Telkoms network is non existence the more people that start using the service the slower your speeds will become because you are in affect sharing the same network/tower with others, be thankfull your not on 3G, my coverage stops like 5km from the nearest LTE tower so I'm on 3G which was ok 8MB speeds, since they started launching these LTE contracts tho my speeds have degraded to 0.8MB, it's now officially slower than iburst and at some time during the night it's slower than a 56k modem, might have to go back to dial-ip.
 
Thought below may be interesting:

Better than -88dBm RSRP is a strong signal
Between -89dBm and -96dBm is a very good signal
Between -97dBm and -105dBm is good
Between -106dBm and -112dBm is fair
Worse than -113dBm RSRP is poor

not cool. 17 people doesnt sound right, problably registered on their system in the area. if it is right then something must be faulty.
 
Things much better last 3 nights. Hitting between 10 - 20mbps between 18 - 21pm. No extrrnal antenna.
 
This is happening in my area as well, Mayville Pretoria, during the day I get up to 30mb but for the past 3 weeks at night from 7 to 10 I dont get over 5 mb per second. Is this problem being investigated?

I think its just congestion christo.....its all over the place for various people. Last night my speeds were near perfect. This evening is back to being CRAP again.
 
Guys I encourage you to log support calls with Telkom and hassle them until it is resolved. If nobody lets them know, then nothing will get done. Dont let them send a technician out to your place during the day to do a test when its working fine as it is pointless. I stood firm on this and they have sent the call to their network department for further investigation. So lets see what happens.

Don't mean to sound negative - but they will just do nothing. And thats it. Fact

It's like voting for another party other than the ANC in SA - u just know it's all in vain.

If they do do something, i will be really, really surprised.
 
Will these shaped speeds affect online gaming or streaming? Or is it just the downloading?
Telkom really needs to sort this out

Here is a very simple reason why I argue that it is not tower/network congestion as they say.

Daytime control sample:

Night time Speedtest to Vodacom server:

As you can see, the ping to the cell c server is MUCH worse, BUT I can still get ~20mbps download speeds. This means that my tower has the bandwidth available (ping is not as important to me) so I must conclude that the problem is somewhere else on their network.

Can anyone else find a better explanation than this? I would love to be wrong.

Well, this evening mine is not all that bad. Seems to be slower every other night for me, or maybe its just my imagination :

My speeds are similar to yours at present.
I've found testing to Telkom hosts almost always gives me highest results.

It's still less than half the speed of off-peak. And that ghastly ping means a lot of gaming is a no-go.

The discrepancy you're getting could simply be congestion on the speedtest host. Or the links to those networks.

Still, your less-than-halved maximum and extremely high ping doesn't rule out a degree of congestion on your tower (I'd say it even suggests it...)

The trend I'm seeing is that on-peak performance is worst on Sunday evenings and gradually improves as the week comes to an end. Monday night I couldn't even browse the Internet.

Between 20 about 19pm and 30 about 20pm so running well.
