Dell PowerEdge T20

I've been looking for a secondhand HP Microserver N54L for quite some time now, but as you all know these things are as scarse as hen's teeth! :p I have been contemplating buying a Gen8 but the price is slightly steep for my liking!

So tonight I came across the Dell PowerEdge T20 on takealot.co.za for R2599, which is actually quite cheap considering the specs.

I'll be using it mainly as a HTPC in the living room

Should be delivered in the next few days then I'll post my review on it.

Anybody else got one of these and would like to share their experiences with it?

I got one. Its quieter than the Microservers. It just keeps running with no intervention from me. One thing to note: it has no hard drive, you will have to purchase a hard drive as well. No complaints about it really.

The Microserver hasn't been a viable option for YEARS already, the N54L was a lot more expensive and the "Gen8" is just plain daylight robbery.

This Dell looks like a good option but remember it's a Mini Tower - Huge compared to the Microserver. You could probably build a decent Mini-ITX box for around the same money, maybe a little more.

Yeah, I know it comes without HDD ;) I'm sorted on that front though.

Even the N36 and N40 is hard to come by and those that want to sell, are asking too much because they know it's in high demand. Honestly, I'm too lazy to build :p , besides, most of the Mini-ITX boxes hasn't got space for a lot of drives. Which is why I like this Dell so much. I'm going to take my HDD's out of their enclosures and put it into this machine. Too much wires and plugs that I'm using at the moment.

Also planning on replacing my ageing desktop pc with one of these, but waiting for the old one to die completely first...it's almost there ;)

Esquire have it on special today for R1999 excl VAT. 10 Units only. Normal price is R2399 excl VAT.

Hello All

Firstly , Thank you to all that made Saturday a fantastic day of sales , on our birthday promotion,. as a group we recorded one of highest sales ever achieved on a Saturday with a record number of 1647 invoices done on a single one day.

What we also found was that many clients that came in late did not manage to take advantage of the specials as many items that were allocated for the specials were sold out in the first two hours of us opening our doors.

As it is our birthday we decided to extend our birthday offerings until this Saturday , Many of the deals are similar to the ones we did for last Saturday including the deal on the Dell PowerEdge T20 and with many more to follow until this weekend.

Please click on the link below and once opened , click on the Region sub-links to view items that are on special in your region

looks like a very nice machine,
Does esquire sell the T20 with the Xeon 1225 CPU?

Unfortunately not this is the only model we sell as per suggestion from MyBB members,as we negotiated a really good deal to clear all the stock that was available at the time

We will look into bringing in more models in future

I've got 1 and it's a beast - no issues so far

4 * 4TB Drives
128GB SSD for the OS
Dedicated 2GB GPU

chugging along nicely

Also just bought one, 8 gigs of Memory and a EVGA GT74 SC 1G DDR5 GPU
It comes stock with two 500 Gig drives which I will replace at a later stage.
