Hello,

Does anyone use Dell SonicWall as a Web content-filter/proxy server .

If so what are your views on it ?

Brilliant as it does AD integration and can provide reporting based on Username. We have deployed over a 100 Sonicwalls and have never had one come back. The Sonicwall support is also very good and they have helped countless times when I needed help in setting up a certain feature.

Can you also create user accounts on the device and keep it separate from AD?
Which device would you recommend for about + - 150 users ?

You can have local users and groups.

You would be looking at the TZ215 or the NSA 220.

Make sure you get the 3 year comprehensive security suit as it includes the Content Filtering then also the Analyser software if you want reporting.

Ok awesome thanks a lot .

Can you also allow access via IP address instead of username ?

Do you Know what price is of either of those here ,about ?

You can allow via ip address or Mac address. A rough estimate on the TZ215 with security suite and Analyser is R7000 not sure about the NSA

Wow that's actually quite cheap .

Do you know if you can have different filter groups for certain users or Ip address?

Yes you create your default policy which is most restrictive and the other policies then per user or group.

But can you have other groups that are more restrictive than the default group ?
Pm'd you contact details of someone you can throw some Sonic Wall questions at if you want to chat about it. Feel free to use/ignore it :).

But can you have other groups that are more restrictive than the default group ?

No how it works is your most restrictive group is the default group. Say you block everything for the default group. Then you create other groups which allows certain type of access.

O and the device is almost double what I initially thought.

Does anyone know what the user limit is for the TZ215 with comprehensive gateway security suite Bundle ?

There is no set limit on the amount of users. It has more to do with if the device can handle the amount of users with its processor and memory.

The only problem with a Sonicwall is the reporting costs. I prefer Cyberoam as from the 25ia appliance up the reporting is onboard and free, and their reports are brilliant.

Sonicwall is oke as long as you don't use it in a terminal server environment....

But can this Cyberoam do everything SonicWall can do ?
