Dell Streak Android tablet PC now available on Vodacom

Thats a great view of life .. why buy a mercedes when a beetle is also a car ??? .. its called choice and my needs are not neccessarily the same as yours .. carrying a 7 inch tablet may be too big for me If I lug around armfulls of things to clients .. maybe I just want it to read ebooks on .. maybe just to watch video on the train ... everyone has different needs .. assuming that everyones is the same as yours is naive at best

indeed.

What's rad is reading posts from the people that don't "get it" who, for some reason, feel its quite necessary to inform everyone by just how much they don't get it.

"Oh here's a post about some new fangled sowing machine, I'll just drop a few comments about how much I don't think they are worthwhile in my life. Ya know, cos ppl just gotta know."

Why do haters gotta hate, all the time?

You can get the Galaxy tab for R185/m (abt R4440) if purchased at Vodacom online

"Get a Samsung P1 Galaxy Tab for R3199 when signing an initial 24 month Business Call (per second billing) Contract at R185 per month."

R185pm for the Business Call package, and then R3199 on top of that. No thanks.

Well said! Hehehe!!

Really don't understand what the Iprat fuss is about?

My wife wanted one. Bought her one of those cheap 7" Android tablets for under R900, just so she can browse the web, facebook etc of my WiFi and leave my laptop alone. She loves it, I love the fact that I have my laptop to myself. And for JUST R6099 more I could have had a SMALLER version of what basically amounts to the same thing? Mmmmmm.....choices....choices.....choices....

those cheapies suck....the screen quality is horrible~ battery life...maybe 40mins...

On expansys the Dell streak is cheaper than the Desire hd 2 (7.5k) and about the same price as the Galaxy S (6k).. compare apples and apples

So it's cheaper on Expansys, but still not as good as a Galaxy S which you can get for less than R5500 elsewhere.
I still think it has no place on the market unless the price comes down. It is built with cheaper hardware than those phones, there is no way to justify the price.
And the price Expansys is charging for the Desire HD is a major rip-off, Expansys is not the best place to judge market prices by because their prices range from slightly high to insane rip-offs.

You speak as if youve tried both (The Galaxy and the Streak), thats quite a statement, the Galaxy is better than the Streak ? You care to elaborate why ? And please no comments on build quality and feel (EVERY Samsung Ive ever owned has been cheapish at best (Blackjack Blackjack II and Omnia) and had issues from month 6 or thereabouts.

Personally Ive never touched a real live Streak, Ive seen it , but never used it .. 5 inches is a LOT of extra real estate when your comparing to 4 ... which personally Id find very usefull, and also the 16GB standard internal storage. But besides the real estate difference, Im not sure I see the massive differences that couldnt justify a R500 increase in price

On A side note .. which other online sources could I compare the prices against (Besides expansys) ?

I r using a Galaxy Tab from Virgin Mobile @ R320 p.m. which includes R300 airtime. Yes, they don't have data bundles (I think?), but I use wifi at home so its all good. Also, it appears to be on VC 3g...

Airprint? Ipad Camera connection Kit? USB connection no. Please pass on to Dad!
Or how bout R2000 Netbook with SSD and a External HDD, free ubuntu(whats that? something for free?). You save... lets see... its toooo much SAM!

rebrand it as startrek and it will sell!

Played around with one of these. Felt sluggish.

I've been using it for about 5 months now, and it ranks high with me. it's running Android 2.2, and very responsive. Using internet on it's 5 inch is probably the best thing about it - just like surfing on a pc (you can see the whole screen at a legible size, and pinch to zoom if u encounter some really small text). Battery life is pretty much the same as any other smartphone (which is surprising considering the large screen). I currently have htc hd2 also with same specs, but I actually stopped using it about 3 months ago cos the Streak is great. Even the size starts looking normal after using it for a while - I use it as a normal phone wherever I am and it fits into any trouser pocket easily cos it's so thin. The not that great things about it are: camera, tho passable, is not as good as HD2; usb cable is proprietary, so extra one is expensive; no cellular video-calling on Android, not that I personally ever use video-calling myself; sound quality is so-so; sd card is under the back cover so not hot-swoppable (mine came with 32Gb sd so no need to swop yet); notification leds for when you receive an sms or missed a call were not implemented. Other than that everything else works great and it's an excellent smartphone (not only a tablet) with great resolution screen and specs to match current high-end phones. FYI, I typed this post from my Streak!
Unfortunately, I seem to have a heating problem where my Streak randomly reboots itself every now and then, but I believe it's not the norm, and Dell will hopefully swop it out for me. I dread the thought of going back to a smaller screen.
